I’ve always loved this image! “The Kentuckian” by Tom Benton. Norma Productions was Burt Lancaster’s film company, he commissioned Benton for the artwork for the movie posters in 53’ and the paining was completed in 54’ about 1000 promotional copies like the one here were produced that same year. Lancaster kept the original painting until 1978 when he donated it to the L.A. County Museum. It’s up for grabs in the gallery! 🙂

The legendary Outlaw Frank James in the house! While jailed in Gallatin Mo. on murder charges he wrote this two page letter to his wife here in Independence Annie Ralston. Accompanied is a hand drawn doodle “Kissing you through the bars” dated May 9th 1883. Frank would use the alias ‘Ben’ when writing her letters so they wouldn’t be intercepted in route. Big thanks to longtime customer Mr. M. 🙂

“The Jolly Flatboatmen” by George Caleb Bingham. This original mezzotint was engraved by Thomas Doney in 1847 and published by Powell & Co. for the American Art Union in New York. This example does have some foxing and restoration by the previous owner (typical for its age) It’s now in a new archival frame and ready for its next 179 years! It’s up for grabs in the gallery, call for details. It won’t last long’ 🙂
