Much of what I buy nowadays is just cheap junk, so I'm rarely impressed. This just arrived and it might be the exception. Its made for electronics, but for reel repair, this is the "cat's pajamas".

This little screwdriver has some really good torque and the bits will cover everything from small reels to large trolling reels. The hard part will be keeping it away from the wife.

This is exactly how I do a static load test when building a custom rod or replacing all of the guides of a rod to a new set.

Yes, there is a possibility of breaking a rod IF there is a weak point in the rod. Many things can cause a weak or compromised spot in a rod blank. Most likely culprit is a weight banging against the rod blank. Blanks are compromised in transport and you might not even know it. It they have a weak spot at all, the static load test will 9x out of 10, reveal it. The blank will just pop.
