One of the most common questions we hear is, “What should I spray?”

Sometimes…the best answer is nothing at all.

This little creature may not look very friendly, but it’s actually a ladybug larva—one of nature’s best garden helpers. Before it ever becomes the bright red ladybug we all recognize, it spends its days hunting aphids and other plant-damaging insects.

That’s one of the reasons we encourage people to take a closer look before reaching for a spray bottle. A healthy garden isn’t bug-free—it’s a garden where the good bugs and the bad bugs are kept in balance.

What’s the deal with hibiscus anyway?

The general term “hibiscus” can be a little confusing because it actually refers to three very different plants. While they’re all part of the hibiscus family, they each grow differently, have different care requirements, and fill a different role in the landscape.

Here’s a quick guide to help tell them apart:

🌺 Perennial Hibiscus A.K.A. Hardy Hibiscus (like the Summerific® series)
• Hardy in Zones 4–9, so they come back year after year.
• Die back to the ground each winter and emerge again in late spring.
• Produce enormous, dinner-plate-sized blooms that make a statement in the garden.

🌳 Shrub Hibiscus (Rose of Sharon)
• A woody shrub that keeps its branches year-round.
• Blooms on the same woody stems each summer.
• Can grow into a large flowering shrub or small tree, making it perfect for privacy, hedges, or as a landscape focal point.

☀️ Tropical Hibiscus
• Not winter hardy in our area.
• Thrives in pots, on patios, and around pools during the summer.
• Should be brought indoors before the first frost if you’d like to keep it from year to year.

They may all be called hibiscus, but they’re three very different plants! Knowing the difference helps you choose the one that’s right for your garden—and saves a lot of confusion later.

Sundays look a little different around here. 🌿

The registers are quiet. The parking lot is empty. The pace slows down.

But the flowers don’t stop blooming.

They still reach for the sun. The butterflies still visit. The bees still get to work. Someone still waters the perennials. Someone still pauses to admire a bloom that’s only here for today.

Every garden has that one plant everyone ends up standing beside.

Not because it’s the biggest.
Not because it’s the rarest.

Because it’s alive.

Miss Molly butterfly bush has a way of turning a quiet corner into a place that’s constantly buzzing, fluttering, and changing. One butterfly leaves, another arrives. Bees hum from bloom to bloom. Every time you walk by, there’s something new to notice.

We spend a lot of time talking about how the world could use a little more kindness.

Sometimes the best way to start is with something simple.

A flower.
A front porch.
A knock…or maybe no knock at all.

Just a quiet reminder that someone is thinking of you.

What surprised us most wasn’t just the smiles these Kindness Pots brought to the people who found them…it was how much joy the simple act of giving brought to our own family.
