It's October, that means the arrival of the Dark Eyed Junco! A great little bird that migrates down to our area this time of year. They will normally spend the winter with us and return north in the spring. They are a ground feeder so throw a little seed on the ground for them. They prefer to be around shrubs and small trees for cover. I like to sprinkle a little millet around our various shrubs and white spruce we have in the yard. They will thank you for it! So will all the other migrating sparrows and other ground feeding birds.

 Yes we have some resurfacing in our parking lot currently going on however we are still open and have plenty of parking in the remaining part of the parking lot. You can enter through the drive by the bank. We are open today until 6 o’clock and are happy to help with your seed and suet needs.

It's that time of year that there seems to be a lull at the feeders. I get the occasional woodpecker, bluejay or mourning dove but not a whole lot else. Mainly because there is a lot of natural foods out there right now. Plants are going to seed, have lots of berries and other fruits. Still a good amount of insect activity. Most of the birds will be after all of that before really coming back to the feeders on a regular basis. My suet cakes are probably the main attraction atm... Pileated family come to them regularly. Along with the Harry, Downy and Red bellied woodpeckers. Finches are coming to the finch feeders... not in great numbers like I normally have though. Its the time of transition! I still have the occasional Hummingbird stopping for a drink. I had one visit this morning but... wont be seeing them too much longer.
