We saw an American Alpine Club post about supporting the American Alpine Club Climber’s Ranch at Grand Teton National Park today and thought to share a few photos of a little Limmer research journey we were on last week.
We hadn’t been to the Climber’s Ranch, but in tracking down a few leads from History Jackson Hole | Jackson Hole History Museum , Exum Guides , and Jenny Lake Rangers , it was a recommended stop!
The connection of Peter Limmer Sr.’s famous boots is engrained both in the history of the AAC and of course with exploring the Tetons. From the early days of US explorers like Ad Carter, Bob Bates, and Arthur Emmons, to mountaineers Willi Unsoeld, Barry Bishop, Jake Breitenbach, and Teton legend’s John Montagne, Bill Briggs, Barry Corbet, Bob French, Al Read, Peter Lev, Rod Newcomb, and a many others, Limmer boots were always part of the plan.
In addition to providing great accommodations at the Climber’s Ranch, the American Alpine Club Library there is simply a lovely spot to stop and enjoy. After reading about many Limmer adventures over the years, being able to flip through the trip reports with a physical copy of the journals was simply a delight. The writing, photos, and illustrations are better in person than reading online :)
According to the AAC post, you can support the Climber’s Ranch Community Foundation of JH ‘s annual Old Bill’s Fundraiser, or for starters, be like us and renew your AAC Membership today. Note - There’s currently a sweet tshirt offering for joining!
Plan your trip to the Old Bill’s Fundraiser on September 18th, support online, and of course stop by the Climber’s Ranch and spend a few hours researching what we consider to be the magical days of US mountaineering.
