Good afternoon Mantiques friends and fans. After a lifetime of hard work, it is time for me to stop pushing against the wall of time and move off in a different direction. This may be my final post in this space. Yes, I am retiring from working. Yay! At hard work since age 9 (farm work) and a lifetime of horology work, schooling, medical practice, and first responder work, I am now drastically limiting my clock repair work. I will not accept any clocks that can be picked up and carried. That includes cuckoo clocks. And my grandfather clock work will be only for my best previous customers.
My concentration now is only restoration work for museum level or high end collector work. As a trained horological conservator, this high end work is the only work I am interested in doing. It’s time to rest and practice what I have been trained to do without the crush of hundreds of repairs per month, as has been in the past.
All current work will be finished. But no more carry clock work. And to put it in writing, no, I am not recommending any other clockmakers.
I am also taking select commissions for organically produced clocks from my own hands. If you have any interest in a handmade clock, text me and we’ll discuss the scope of work including pricing.
If you are a former customer and need your grandfather clock serviced, contact me. There are to my knowledge, no other clockmakers in our area that do any quality home based grandfather work, so I will until my physical limitations also prevent that.
It’s been quite a run. In the last 13 years I’ve accumulated somewhere near 15,000 clock repairs. That’s more than I would have ever imagined, but the books say it’s true. Even writing this makes me feel tired!
The very few clocks left are restoration work. Plus, nobody has contacted me for years about the few clocks left in the shop on consignment. Florida law has been satisfied for abandoned products. All of these clocks will be donated, placed in rest homes, or discarded. No reason to contact me now as all these clocks are being dispersed. Limitation times have been satisfied.
I’d like to end this post thanking all the prior customers that have kept Mantiques a successful enterprise for the last 13 years. To all of you, a sincere thank you! Happy retirement to me!

Good day Mantiques fans. It’s been awhile since my last post. Well maybe this - is - my last post. Due to declining health, I am retiring my clockwork business.
As I fold up the carpet, I will finish pending work and continue to attend to Grandfather clocks on an appointment basis only. And since I am trained as a sympathetic restoration horologist, I will take on historical or museum pieces on an appointment only basis as well. But all other clocks I am done with after 35 years of professional service.
I openly am humbled by the 10,000+ satisfied customers repairs and the hundreds if not thousands of customers which have made the last 35 years the most interesting years of my life.
If you need grandfather clock repaired, you may text me with your request, or tower clocks, or historical clocks. But all other types…. that ship has sailed and I will be able to rest as needed.
Thank you for your support over the last decades.
I have several GF clocks that were remanded to me for consignment years ago with no offers. I would like to return them to their owners. But if I hear nothing in a month, I will be liquidating them to charity.
It’s been a long wild ride. But it’s time to dismount and sit.

Only a few repair clocks to finish from the hundred or more left over from the retail shop. Still have many cuckoo clocks with no parts available. If you want yours back, I am happy to return it (unfixed). There are so many we might have to track it down but everything is still here in the shop so it hasn’t disappeared or anything. If you don’t want it back, please leave me a text message at the normal business number 352-697-9704 so I can offer it to my students or colleagues to practice on.
Also, I have had a change in decorating taste and have many clocks in my personal collection I would be willing to sell. I have two Mid Century original George Nelson Howard Miller wall clocks. I’ve added photos. If you have any interest PM me and make a reasonable offer. As you would expect, both of these clocks work perfectly and have been serviced and maintained by myself personally. They are not inexpensive. You can research them and them make me an offer. Both are from the 1950’s. Both are famous designed clocks.

Good morning Mantiques fans.
1) there is much confusion about how to reach me. I have several numbers floating around that should be deleted. Because of the robo call siege my numbers are victim of, I cannot answer the phone. Text or email.
The only accurate, consistent number is: 352-697-9704
2) I have a restoration coming in from France that will take me several months to complete. As a consequence, I am not taking any new work for the next six months. Unless you are an existing customer or a house call.
If you can wait, it will be worth it in the end.
3) I have tried to contact customers who have apparently abandoned their clocks with me for whatever reason. I am putting these clocks in secure safe storage until you contact me to retrieve them. Active clocks in the queue will be finished as normal.
4) After a lifetime of work on clocks and 10,000 jobs in the last 10 years, I am tired. I am still active, just not as active. After the six month moratorium in over, I will still be taking clocks in.
5) My student Brandon has two full years of work study with me. He is quite capable and he will be taking over the role of modern clock repairs whilst I concentrate on the more difficult cases. So we are in no way stopping business, just slowing down a bit.
Lastly, I have GF clocks in storage that need homes. From $100 to $8500 and all in between. Now is the time. Text me and we will find the perfect clock for you.

Hello Mantiques friends and fans. Many of you already know I have downsized and the retail shop has been sold. For safety, I work in my one of two shops at home. This is pretty good news for you, because now I pick up and deliver. Or meet at a mutually beneficial place to take in or drop off your work.
Yes, I am still the same or better clockmaker as always, but downsizing has been a major positive for me.
I have one working number. And I cannot answer that number because of the number of robo calls I get per day. But I do and will interact with customers via text messages. I just limit the time of texting between 4:00 and 6:00pm. If you text me, and I don’t text back, I will… be patient.
Good news, much of the really behind time work is done, only a few pieces left that have been with me for far longer than expected. This is primarily due to moving the entire shop and also the lack of parts. The horology industry as a whole is suffering because of the ongoing conflict in Europe, where much of our parts are manufactured. The brass we usually have is now laying all over the fields in Ukraine corroding away. So it’s slow because I have to make those parts by hand and sometimes I am unable to even obtain the correct raw materials to make parts.
If you left a Cuckoo clock with me - there are NO parts whatsoever for them. Zero. Memos from parts houses say they are completely out of replacement part with no foreseeable return to any sort of normality. So, I have about 25 cuckoo clocks that need to go back to you without repair. Please text me your name and ticket number and let me get your clocks back to you. If I don’t hear from the owners of these clocks in the next thirty days, I will have to dispose of them. I have no choice. I don’t want to, but have no choice.
I still do house calls. And am able to go out almost any day of the week.
Regular work continues. Some of the work is -very- complicated and that is why it isn’t done yet. But I am working through these difficult cases one by one.

Good morning Mantiques fans!
I haven’t been able to update this page for a while as I am finalizing moving the shop on Sterling Rd to my home shop which is not open to the public.
I can only move a little bit at a time whilst working on clocks too. But I am doing it bit by bit. I am no longer working at the Sterling Rd shop at all as I have moved all my tools. So your clocks are being serviced at the other shop.
All customer clocks and parts are still under the same conditions as the commercial shop; monitored alarms, climate control, and shelving to prevent one clock coming into contact with anything else. The same and better quality of service will be afforded to every job entrusted to me.
The Sterling Rd phone and internet will be disconnected as soon as every last customer clock is safe and secure in my other shop. Then the phone and alarm will be disconnected.
The new number for the shop is a mobile number 352-697-9704. You can call voice or preferably, text me at that number to contact me. I will return calls during business hours. Texts I will return either during business hours or up until 8pm and no later. In other words, I won’t bother anyone later than that. Texting has the advantage of not immediately being thought of as a robo call and it is a permanent record of the contact. Please text whenever possible. This new phone in 8 hours received 52 robo calls! No kidding. I counted.
Anyway, until the Sterling Rd shop is 100% closed, soon, I can meet you there for pick ups and drop offs. After that, I will be mobile. Once or twice a week, I will pick up clocks from an area, repair them, and drop them back off as the repairs are completed. I will have a mobile payment system so exact cash, checks, and any brand of cards can be used for the costs.
Cuckoo clocks - no good news I am afraid. There are no new parts being produced and shipped still after a year and the parts that distributors have on their shelves have gone up in price 4X. I am fixing the clocks that are fixable without parts, but the outlook is grim. Of course when parts do become available and reasonable, the remaining clocks will be repaired.
Did you leave a clock with me and forget about it? I have a few that seem abandoned. I cannot store them forever. Please contact me if you think your clock is still with me and you’ve forgotten.
Since Henry’s passing last July, things have been rough. But I am carrying on with a bit of help from Brandon, but it’s a slow process.
I am arranging to market the grandfather clocks on consignment. In the meantime, they will be available to anyone that asks.
Most of the jobs I have in the queue are the most difficult to repair. They are not just “spray and go” kinds of repairs that some other shops might do to speed up the process. I will not do that. If the time lag is longer than you care for, contact me and you can have another shop do the work. I don’t charge for work I don’t do.
As many of you reading this might agree, I personally in my 61 years have never experienced anything like the things affecting the world, our country, state, and locales like what is happening right now. The last few years have been brutal for small businesses. That hasn’t let up. Fixing is what I do, and do it well. Dealing with lack of materials, parts, banking, corporate governance, and all the rest is much more challenging.
I still have a good fight left in me and will continue undaunted until it’s time to cease…. a few years away.
Meanwhile, thanks for the unwavering support and encouragement many of you offer up. It means a lot. I’ve left a photo of the kind of work I am doing at the moment. The gear on the left was designed and cut by me. It belongs to a 1700’s grandfather clock and is excruciating in its exactness. You don’t just oil the old one and send it on.

Good day Mantiques fans!
Every year for the past ten years during October and November, I plan a short respite from the day to day grind of the clock shop and breathe deep a bit. According to “The Boss”it’s either rest or Rest In Peace. It may not seem like I work hard, but I do. There is just so much work. Or has been. Finally…. finally I am closing the gap on the repairs long overdue. I make no apologies for careful artisan work, but neither is years of waiting acceptable either. So I will punctuate my R&R with some days finishing several jobs in process.
I have left the answering machine off on purpose. It will just fill up and that doesn’t do either of us any good. I have several clocks ready to go that have errors in phone numbers so I am unable to return your calls. If your last name begins with “OL”, your clock is fixed, tested, and ready to be reinstalled. I just have no correct number to make arrangements. A few others also have phone numbers written down by former employees that are not connecting. I’ll take care of that in about a week.
I have one fellow who claims I’ve stolen his clock. In ten years and 7000+ clocks, my shop has *never* “lost” or (heavens!) stolen a clock. We had one stolen by a professional thief years ago and none since, but never one mishandled by us. There is logged evidence that the piece in question was completed and returned. We haven’t been in business as long as we have by mishandling clients property. If by any chance, you got a white cuckoo clock with a ladder on it by mistake, please contact me. Thanks.

Any outstanding work is at the very top of the queue because I have whittled down the clocks in arrears. So everything I have should be done in the next few weeks. I hope.

It is Friday, 30th of September. The shop will be closed today until I can sort out and assess the damages to my property that was hit hard by Ian. I hope to have this done before the end of the day.
Mondays house calls scheduled will be reviewed later this evening. I will be physically back in the shop Tuesday.

Dear Mantiques fans,
Ian is passing and here in Citrus County it looks like we missed a major portion of the storm. The local advisory is for people to stay in place while damage assessments are being made. The shop will remain closed today.
However, family property in the Daytona area got hit hard and has some significant damage. I will travel there to check on that property and the Orange City town Hall clock to check for damage there as well. I have some work finished here in the home shop and it looks like Monday’s house call route will be normal, unless your family evacuated or sustained damage. Please call the shop and leave a message if you need to cancel for Monday. I will try to stay on top of messages, but the phone answering service has been losing calls lately, so if I don’t reach out to you, try again. It’s probably time to replace the phone system.
Everyone: the last few months have been rough for Mantiques. Thank you for your continued patience as I work through the repair work. The cuckoo clocks are the log jam. There are no parts available to replace, they take a long time to repair, and they are expensive to work on. Prices of cuckoo parts that may be on distribution shelves have tripled in price in the last 4 months.
If you would like to pick your cuckoo clock up, other customers tell me there is a shop in Leesburg that will take them. I have no idea about price or time that shop charges. Meanwhile, I am working through them while working on GF clock movements as well. There are a few clocks ready, I will contact you as they pass their testing drills. I will contact you….. the more calls I take personally, the less time I have to work on clock repairs.
