Tightening the tap on residents, but wide open for developers? 🤔

Our area is currently locked into strict Modified Phase III "Extreme" Water Shortage restrictions.
Local rivers, lakes, and public reservoirs are hitting historic lows due to a massive multi inch rainfall deficit.

The reality of these restrictions is getting intense. Local code enforcement and utilities are patrolling neighborhoods and issuing immediate citations without a warning for first-time watering violations. Restaurants are banned from serving water unless a customer explicitly asks, and golf courses have been cut back to a strict minimum.

Every single drop counts. But if our water supply is in such severe jeopardy that citizens face immediate fines for keeping their lawns alive, it is hard to understand why new housing developments and massive construction projects continue to get the green light.

Every new home adds immediate, permanent demand to an already strained aquifer. Managing an extreme drought shouldn't just mean policing existing residents it means looking at the big picture.

Why isn't there a temporary building moratorium in place until our aquifer has a chance to fully recover?
We need smart growth that respects our actual resources. Let’s talk about how fast we are growing versus how much water we actually have left. 💧🏗️
