It's Wednesday so it's time to play... NAME! THAT! CHARACTER!!!
In this post, you can see an iconic image of a lesser known character from comics. It might be someone from the Big Two, or it might be someone from an indie book. Do you know this mystery person? This lady is extremely green.

Lots of new releases this week. Some exciting things:
Assorted Crisis Events v2 continues this twisting, complex tale of what it would be like to live in a world of superpowered mayhem. Marvel has two new Premier Collection installments available: Secret Wars and Avengers: Time Runs Out (perfectly timed to read before Doomsday this winter)! And DC has a new compact book with Batman and Son!
There are also a couple exciting new manga releases: Skip Beat gets a new 3-in-1 release, and Cat-Life Balance v2 is here to give us the "cute cats doing cute things" we all need in our lives.

This week features some really fun new releases! Here are some highlights:
Marvel has a big milestone this week: THOR #800! (We'll leave it to you to figure out the complicated math as to how they arrive at that number across a half dozen or more volumes...) Big, buff, and blonde has an oversized offering that'll entertain for sure. There's also a new Spider-Man and Hulk mini: Fire and Brimstone... sounds hellish! And Stephanie Phillips and team's new Daredevil book releases #5, and people are loving this run! Plus, Avengers Armageddon #3 continues the story of how the world is once again turning against superpowered individuals, this time due to the Red Hulk's megalomania.
DC has two big absolute releases this week: Flash #18 and Green Arrow #4! This universe keeps us on our toes, and who knows what revelations may be on offer? Be sure to check out what's going on in Darkseid's neighborhood.
Some really exciting indie books are also on offer! Bug Wars is back with The Coming of Wardoom #1! Get caught up with the first paperback and dive into this new arc of "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" mixed with Conan the Barbarian! And Last Driver #1 brings Sean Murphy's kinetic artwork back to your eyes, in a stunning landscape-oriented first issue about driving cars very, very fast.

It's MANGA MONDAY, where we highlight a volume or series from our collection that might be of interest! This week, we highlight Chainsmoker Cat, which is currently airing a very successful - and hilarious - anime right now!
On the surface, Chainsmoker Cat seems like just a farce of a book. Yani Neko, a catgirl, is utterly addicted to ci******es, and they are her only pleasure in life: everything she does is suborned by her need to smoke. This, naturally, results in some true goofery and tomfoolery.
But while this may seem like jokes and japes at first, Chainsmoker Cat also addresses a very real situation: the dire straits of the profoundly poor in Japan, and how miserable and deprived their lives can end up. It's funny, sometimes h***y, and off the wall, but it also raises questions about class, discrimination, and substance abuse.

It's Sunday, so what better way to spend your afternoon than diving through the back issues! We wanted to highlight a book with a helluva cover this week: Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #133, featuring an iconic Bill Sienkiewicz piece of art that (as eagle-eyed viewers might notice in the bottom left) is inspired by the weird, angular art of Egon Schiele, a turn-of-the-century expressionist.
One of the most talented and distinctive artists working in comics doing such a stunning homage to one of the greatest artists of the early 20th century makes for a great piece!

It's Shelfie Saturday! Today, we look at an older collection that you might have missed and talk about what makes it so great. Today, Nathan wants to talk specifically about the issue in this collection when Clark & Lois go on a double date with Bruce & Selina.

"I'm writing this on my fifth wedding anniversary, August 13th (legally married -- there was some stop/start along the way, but that's for another time) so it seems fitting to start this series with an issue I've been erroneously calling "Date Night" for the past 8 years.
"King's run on Batman was inconsistent: each arc would show promise but come to an unsatisfying conclusion (this would plague his whole time penning Batman) but when I heard Bruce proposed to Selina I grabbed the issue immediately (I re-read Bats #24 as well and I'm verklempt thinking about it now) but, well, that couldn't really work could it? Could BatCat fit in with the larger pantheon of super couples? King et al.'s response was to bounce them off of the preeminent DC old married couple: Lois and Clark.
"The gimmick is a fun one: put Bruce & Selina in place of Lois & Clark and have them answer why this is a good idea and how this could work. Clark doesn't like that Selina is a criminal; Lois doesn't think that Bruce is trustworthy, but BatCat hold their own. They know everything about each other and show they're serious about this ('When I fall [s]he catches me' -- I'm misty again). Superman throws a pitch Batman shouldn't be able to hit, but when Bruce knocks it out of the park, why should we doubt he can live the married life?
"There was a lot of promise in the wedding. And while it didn't work out in the end, for a little while they made me believe it would."

Check out what we're most excited about this week!
Nathan's pick is Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1: in this new story arc (and great hopping-on point), Miles' dad's past comes back to haunt the family and disrupts Spider-Man's attempt to make life work out.
eden's pick is Hello Kitty and Friends #1: listen, it's a Hello Kitty comic. You know what you're in for here: cute animals doing cute things. The polybagged issues have centerfold stickers of Pompompurin!
Jailene's pick is Batman and Robin Year One - Dynamic Duos: the sequel to last year's great Batman and Robin Year One, Samnee and Waid are back at it again, telling stories of a younger Bruce and Dick doing the dang thing.
Jackon's pick is Godzilla: Roar of the Worlds: another Monsterpiece Theatre one-shot, this time it's Godzilla messing up some tripods. Also Robin Hood is there.
John's pick is Infernal Hulk #10: things are really heating up for Bruce Banner, trapped in a hellish magic dimension and trying to regain his powers in the face of One Below All.
Robert's pick is Absolute Batman #23: the Scarecrow arc is hitting its apex, and some dramatic this happen you won't want to miss.

There are a bunch of exciting books coming out this week! We'll highlight some exciting ones:
Death Fight Forever is a psychedelic neon romp through the post-apocalypse of the 1980s. It looks incredible and is really fun, violent, and gory. Murder Podcast's first collection comes out, and let me tell you, as a podcaster, sometimes making all those episodes IS like murder. The fourth volume of Stjepan Sejic's Sunstone reprints will be available. The latest collection of Uncle Scrooge comics is out, too, in glorious hardcover!
There are also some fun new manga first volumes. Chiisakobee is a new reinterpretation of the classic historical novel, transposed to the modern day, telling the story about recovering from grief and finding family. Hotel Inhumans is the chic, elegant place where hitmen go to relax. You Might As Well Be the One offers a new romcom for romance fans!
Stop on by and pick up something new and exciting! Or something old and exciting, we're not here to judge! ;)
