A member perusing the wine section couldn’t find a particular brand she had heard of, so she asked the nearby employee if it was something Costco carried. The employee advised the member that Costco didn’t sell it because it was lacking in both body and nose, and for some reason often came without a label on the bottle. When the member asked how a winery could sell their bottles without labels, the employee shrugged. “Nobody knows.”

This week’s is for Kaitlin G. at #660 Puyallup, Washington. A member writes: “I want to give a serious verbal high-five to Kaitlyn for her absolutely incredible member service. Kaitlin kindly walked my 87-year-old mother, who has Alzheimer’s, to the restroom and then waited patiently to walk her back out to the sales floor where she found me. I so appreciate her thoughtfulness.”

It was on this day in 1982 that Ozzy Osbourne (allegedly) bit the head off of a bat during a concert in Des Moines, Iowa. If you’re looking for a less potentially toxic way to expand your protein palette, we’d recommend the meat section of your nearest Costco. Depending on the location and the season, you may find rabbit, octopus, beef tongue and whole goats in addition to your staple meats.

Andre Michelin, co-inventor of removable tires and co-founder of the Michelin Tyre Company, was born on this day in 1853. Costco has worked hard to honor this innovation by not only selling peak-quality rubber rings, but also offering installation, a five-year hazard warranty and lifetime maintenance services at no extra charge.

It’s National Bagel Day! The hot dog combo and rotisserie chicken are understandably Costco’s most iconic food deals, but warehouse bakeries have been browning up these delectable circular delights at a screaming deal since 1987. So pick up a couple packs of your favorite flavor and enjoy one with your favorite shmear. We heartily recommend Nutella, topped with Lucky Charms and graham crackers. Yes, seriously.

Our this week goes to the bakery crew at #317 Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Manager Laura W. writes: “Our bakery team worked hard, around the clock, to ensure our members had the Thanksgiving desserts they needed to make their holiday great. They helped our location reach the number one sales spot in the Northeast Region Division 6 for pumpkin pies (12,264), apple pies (3,137) and pumpkin cheesecakes (371) over Thanksgiving week!”

A member and his young son were doing some back-to-school shopping at their Costco warehouse and were looking for some new shoes. The boy, noticing that a popular brand was in stock, excitedly plucked a box off of the pallet to check the fit. “Dad, will you put my shoes on?” the boy eagerly asked. The father slowly shook his head and apologetically said, “I don’t think they’ll fit me, son.”

Costco got the opposite of a chilly reception from advocacy group ATMOsphere, who awarded the company “Best-in-Sector/Retail End User” for efforts to adopt natural refrigeration methods, lower waste output and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
