Sorry you haven’t heard too much about Creative Reuse of Ithaca in the past couples of months! Behind the scenes we have been working on making a major shift with the initiative, and today we’re finally announcing what is to come in the future. Our current owner Rachel Feirman is stepping down from her duties to follow another path that life is taking her on, but she did not want this to change the trajectory of this awesome community resource she worked so hard to build. So that’s why we’re so glad to announce that our good friend Sonya Dugal of So What? Studios will be taking the reigns of owner starting this summer!!! We are so grateful to her for the willingness and enthusiasm she brings which will undoubtably help nourish the vision that Creative Reuse of Ithaca had from the very beginning. Keep reading to learn more about Sonya and her mission ⬇️
Sonya is the founder of So What? Studio, a social arts club for adults located here in Ithaca who’s mission is to create spaces and curate imaginative events centered around the creative arts where folks feel safe and empowered to explore their artistic voices amongst community. With a background in design, social justice advocacy, art therapy and counseling, Sonya believes deeply in the power of art as a tool for liberation and in the belief that creativity thrives when resources are shared. She is honored to be stepping into the new leadership role of Creative Reuse of Ithaca, a mighty effort aiming to save usable art materials from landfills and recirculate them into the community, and is looking forward to forging a new ecosystem where Creative Reuse and So What? Studio become a playground for possibility and a space where our artistic voices are awakened and nurtured.
