🐾 When a Routine Surgery Takes an Unexpected
Turn: An Update on Blue! 🐾
We always hear about routine spays, but yesterday’s update on our sweet Blue is a stark reminder that sometimes routine surgeries can drastically change in the blink of an eye.
Dr. Hunter reached out to share that Blue's spay surgery turned into quite a roller coaster. Midway through the procedure, she unexpectedly began bleeding, causing her blood pressure to drop significantly and requiring all hands on deck to save her life as the team worked fast to get her stabilized and closed up.
Because of the blood loss, she actually needed an emergency blood transfusion during the operation! We are so grateful to our brave donor dog, Flip-Flop, who stepped up to help save the day. ❤️🩸
The good news after a very scary half-hour? Blue is doing great now!
Her blood pressure is completely back to normal.
She is stable and comfortable.
She even managed to eat a little bit last night!
Because of how her body reacted under anesthesia, the vet noted she likely won't be a candidate for any future elective anesthetic events. This could have ended badly and we are lucky that it didn't. This girl is definitely going to get extra treats and love! 🐾✨
Thank you Dr. Mikayla, Dr. Hunter, and the staff at Sugarcreek Vet for your quick action and saving our girl's life. Way to fight through it, Blue! 💜🧡
