Good afternoon!
Not only am I celebrating a birthday on today, but I wanted to share with you what else Iβm celebratingβ¦.
Itβs self reflection on practicing what I do vs what I say. Iβve always preached to my daughters about embracing their natural bodies and hair and painfully Iβm just realizing that me myself, the one whose constantly preaching about owning what you have and your own natural crown was struggling with wearing my own natural hair.
For the past 15-20 years Iβve constantly worn wigs and extensions without giving much thought about why I should give it a break or go cold turkey. True enough it was about convenience and low maintenance but truth be told I didnβt want to be bothered with my natural hair. So up until recently I had decided that it was time to take a break and work with what was mine, ALL mine. I also told myself that when the grays came I wouldnβt dye them or hide them, it was what it was and I would rock it to the fullestβ¦β¦ but chile when it came down to it I had to cut a lot off in order to make it even and I was highly upset about the length as well as the amount of gray I actually had, I was damn near in tears. I went and laid down which is what I always do when Iβm feeling down or to avoid addressing things that need attention. I thought about what I told myself about how I would handle it but most importantly thought about all that preaching and teaching I had done with my girlsβ¦.
So I had to suck it & get myself together, and I did just that. I think all the gray hair really did it for me now as I think about itβ¦.getting older, the changes us women go through, it was just overwhelming for me. I think over time itβll get better but in the meantime cheers to a new era I guessπ€·πΎββοΈDeerias Dreamz is way more than bracelets & jewelry, itβs about beauty, acceptance, & self loveβ¦.we can tackle all of the above together 1 day at a timeπ€πΎπ€πΎ
