🐴 TACK TUESDAY | What’s a Night Latch? 🐴

A night latch is a short strap or loop secured around the gullet/pommel area of a Western saddle, giving the rider a sturdy handle when they need a little extra security.

🌙 The cowboy history:
The term night latch dates back to cowboys tending cattle at night. During those long hours in the saddle, a cowboy could slip his thumb or hand through the loop so if he dozed off, he had a little extra security in the saddle. And when one decides to BUCK… That night latch can come in mighty handy!

Sometimes the simplest piece of tack has some of the best cowboy history behind it. 🤠
