The Meaning of Black Friday… (to me):
When I was a little girl, we didn’t have a lot growing up. My mother worked her ass off as a secretary and saved all year for Christmas, (she had a Christmas savings account at the local credit union). Every year, the week before Thanksgiving, her funds were released, and we would (finally could) buy all the Thanksgiving trimmings and start our holiday season (it was always an exciting happy time for her, and I ). So, every Black Friday, (before my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease), we would always have a girl day and go shopping together. This was the only day of the year we had a girl day and shopped together, because like I said – funds… But first things first – Grandma’s Big Mac! She had high blood pressure, so she always watched what she ate – BUT on BF nothing could happen until grandma had her big mac!! (I think this was her favorite part of the day! {Can you imagine having the will power to wait all year for the one thing you love to eat most in the world?!}
Anyway, many years later, I would go on to open my boutique on Black Friday… So the day has special meaning to me, for so many reasons… And now, moving on to a new chapter, years later, I get to spend it with all these wonderful women!! … Sometimes it’s easy to think these holiday “money spending” moments are just monetary and mean nothing anymore, but in truth, we’re creating memories with loved ones in special ways... I hope you stop by this black Friday, so we can be part of yours! XXO
