World Elephant Day🐘❤️

Elephants are intelligent, family-oriented, and have great memories.
They are capable of feeling a wide range of deep emotions, from intense grief to joy bordering on elation, as well as empathy and stunning self-awareness.

They create complex, supportive societies much like our own.
Taking into consideration all of that and much, much more, what’s not to love about elephants?

Sadly, elephants are brutally killed every year for their ivory by greedy poachers who then leave their carcasses to rot in the sun.
Preserve and protect the Pachyderms so they do not go the way of the mammoth!

FYI - Indian and African elephants differ in size but you can tell by the EARS!

US Department of Defense (DoD) Day🎂

Although the federal government has overseen the US Armed Forces since our nation’s inception, the Department of Defense name and centralized defense department was not established until the late 1940s.

The “official” anniversary of the creation of the Department of Defense as we know it in modern times is August 10.

Established in 1949 thanks to an amended National Security Act, the agency is run by the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) with the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the various military services operating subordinately to the SECDEF.

The DoD is an executive division of the US Federal Government, based in the Pentagon and is responsible for ensuring national security and supervising the US military forces.

Purple Heart Day is a time for Americans to remember, honor and commemorate the men and women who have been killed or wounded during military combat.💜

General George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit on August 07, 1782.

The honor was to be presented to soldiers for “any singularly meritorious action.”

Congress had put a moratorium on promotions in the Continental Army due to a lack of funds; the Commander-in-Chief created the award as a way to honor enlisted men deserving of recognition.

Its design included a purple, heart-shaped piece of silk bound with a thin edge of silver.

Across the face, the word "Merit" was embroidered in silver.
The Badge of Military Merit symbolized the courage and devotion of an American Patriot.

Until Washington’s 200th birthday, the Purple Heart persisted as a Revolutionary War footnote.

Through the efforts of General Douglas MacArthur, the US War Department created the Order of the Purple Heart.💜

Today the medal bears a bust of George Washington and his coat of arms.

Purple Heart Day is also known as National Purple Heart Day,
Purple Heart Recognition Day and Purple Heart Appreciation Day.
💜

Raise a VU🍺in honor of these brave men and women plus their families and friends who love and miss them.

International / National IPA Day Thursday August 6th!🍺

National / International IPA Day is celebrated to increase appreciation for one of the world's most popular types of craft beer: the India Pale Ale, aka IPA!

Made with hops and pale malts, IPA has a full-bodied taste that is bold and bitter.

IPAs have a higher alcohol content than the average beer and many different hop strains can be used to brew it, creating a myriad of aromas and flavors.

Hence, NEIPAs, aka New England-style, Hazy or Juicy IPAs!

Therefore NOT all IPAs are the same!

IPAs date back to the late 18th century when these (pale) ales were brewed for British sailors of the East India Company, who were making long sea voyages from England to India by taking the Cape Route and sailing around the Cape of Good Hope and Cape L'Agulhas.

When shipping ale to India, adding hops to the beer increased the longevity of the brew. Brewers thought that hops preserved the beer for long voyages to hot climates as most other beers didn’t keep well onboard ship, plus it had a higher hop content, which helped the beer keep its taste.

George Hodgson and his Bow Brewery was one of the first to brew IPAs and export them to India. The brewery was located two miles away from the East India Docks, making it accessible for traders.
Brewers in the English town of Burton soon began brewing beer to send to India, as did Allsopp Brewery, Bass and Salt plus other breweries.

There was demand for IPAs in England by 1840 and the beer was widely brewed there by 1860. However, by about the turn of the twentieth century, IPAs began losing their popularity around the world.🙀

The resurgence of IPAs began with brewing in California microbreweries in the 1970s.

The first American version of the modern IPA is Anchor Brewery's Liberty Ale, which began being brewed in San Francisco in 1975.
Raise your 🍺 on National IPA Day and enjoy this day with friends and support your local craft brewers!

We have 6 different HOPPY VU🍺on TAP!
