🌟SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!🌟
Our warmest thanks and cheeriest salutations to everyone who came to see us at our table at AnachroCon, to visit with the Venusian Airship Pirates Trading co. in the dealer’s hall, and/or who stayed through closing ceremonies to hear our very special announcement. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Steampunk community built by the efforts of this convention, for all the hospitality they have shown to us, and for the wonderful time we had this weekend. To that end, our Dear Captain BillBill Harrison had a few words he would like to say… and we did mention a special announcement, didn’t we?
“Ladies and Gentlemen and Steampunks All,
It is with a heavy heart that we note the last celebration of steampunk at our sister – or more aptly Great Aunt – convention, Anachrocon. It has been a lovely run and we want to reach out and thank the wonderful people who labored to make it as magnificent as it was these 11 years…
We want you to know that inspired by the labors of these above mentioned people we will be continuing the grand tradition of Steampunkery for Atlanta with our convention, the Atlanta Steampunk Exposition, next February 12th, 13th and 14th, 2021, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Dunwoody, 4386 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341!
And here we look forward to carrying on the fine tradition established by Anachrocon. We send them our love and wish them the best… But as we say, Atlanta Needs More Steampunk… So why not?!
Capt. Billbill Feb 17, 2020”
That’s right, the Atlanta Steampunk Expo is moving to a new time! Please come make merry with us once again for our 4th Annual Atlanta Steampunk Expo on the second weekend of FEBRUARY 2021!
🎩 - Why Are We Changing Our Dates? After speaking with many of you last year, the overwhelming feedback we received was that a gathering earlier in the year would be more convenient. October falls after many major conventions and before Halloween and is still rather hot in Atlanta; a February convention is cooler allowing for more elaborate costumes, and easier for our attendees to schedule and budget for. We hope this move will help all of you kick off your convention year with a truly splendid bang!
🎩 - So There Won’t Be an Expo in 2020? With the help of our friends at the Atlanta Steampunk Gun Club and Sewing Circle, we will be holding more Steampunk Meetups throughout the year of 2020. These won’t be full conventions, but they will be opportunities to come together with Steampunk costumes, dealers, parties, teas, and other festivities! And the best news is we are once again listening to your feedback – when we throw our main event in February 2021, we will be able to EXTEND the hours of our programming and our dealers hall for a full 3-day event chock full of everything you loved and missed last year!
🎩 - Does This Mean ASE is Merging with Anachrocon? No. With Anachrocon’s departure, a void has been left in the Atlanta steampunk calendar. It is with the generous blessing of their board of directors that ASE will be moving into this empty slot, and we would like to extend a warm welcome to any longtime volunteers and attendees who would like to participate with ASE, but we are not taking over. We appreciate what Anachrocon has done for the community and hope we can carry on the spirit of creativity, ingenuity, shenanigans, and silliness in their honor.
🎩 - What Else Does This Mean for Me? We are so glad you asked!
*MORE WORKSHOPS on costume design, fabrication, crafting and more!
*BRAND NEW TRACKS including more Kid’s programming, and we are expanding our Literary Track into a Media Track – see panels discussing the influence of Steampunk in literature, television, video games, comics, movies, and more!
*EXTRA SHENANIGANS to add to the list of teapot racing, tea dueling, parasol dueling, hamster wars, and more… let’s hope your skills will keep you watertight…
*EXPANDED DEALER’S HALL HOURS including… drum roll please… MORE DEALERS and a special space for our new
*ARTIST ALLEY/EXHIBITION ROOM where we may have a surprise or two in store…
*TEA ROOM back for another, greater year…
And let’s not forget our glorious theme for our 4th Annual Expo…
🧜♂️ STEAMPUNK ATLANTIS 🧜♀️
Join us on a journey to the magical city of Atlantis, now covered with a Great Dome by Her Royal Majesty’s finest engineers. But there is a mystery afoot… Tentacled creatures seem to be harassing our fleet of submarines… And what of the mythical folk tied to the infamy of this once prosperous place? A foul wind blows, and any moment now we expect more instructions from our Magnificent Queen…
Phew! That must be everything, right? Wrong! How do you like our brand new logo? To complement a new logo for a new year, our website is under renovation and will be relaunched shortly with brand new content, we will be sending out our first update to everyone who signed up for our mailing list, and to further our goal to spread more love of Steampunk we would like to announce the newly established Atlanta Steampunk Expo (Official Group)! Please feel free to join and connect with other attendees of the Expo in a safe space where you can share relevant content, discuss all things Steampunk, find meetups in your area, and hopefully much more as our community grows!
Thank you all for your continued support as we work to make this the best convention in the Southeast! We hope you’ll join us Feb 12-14, 2021 for the 4th Annual Atlanta Steampunk Expo, and we’d love to see you at our Steampunk Meetups throughout 2020! We’ll announce the details for our next meetup soon.
Let’s get Kraken!
