Y'all Jacksonville parents are starting to see the classrooms, make the plans, and meet the teachers today, we hear.

We'll be open Friday and Saturday — before you hit the retail stores you might bring the kids into Replay for some creative back-to-school inspiration.

Books for education and reading pleasure, physical music media that encourages true appreciation of the arts, fun vintage t-shirts for five bucks or less, hats, li'l bags, musical instruments that need varying amounts of love, Croc charms, baseball and pop culture cards for a little cheer-up, a great selection of movies for those early filmmakers to absorb.

And for y'all olds (or kids looking into newspaper/yearbook involvement), we do have a bunch of vintage yearbooks from area schools.

Just come and have a little fun. Cuz Target is gonna be a hassle.

Found some good info for y'all tapeheads and thought it'd be worth sharing.

"How do you know if an old tape is in good shape?

The Fast-Forward / Rewind Hand Test: Take a pencil (or your pinky) and manually spin one of the tape spools. It should turn smoothly with slight, even resistance. If it feels locked, extremely tight, or gritty, do not put it in the deck.

Check for "White Mold" or White Powder: Look through the clear cassette window. If you see white spots, hazing, or powdery residue along the edge of the tape pack, that's mold/fungus. Keep it away from your deck. Mold spores will blow right into the deck mechanisms and contaminate other tapes.

Inspect the Felt Pad: Look inside the bottom opening where the tape exposes its magnetic ribbon. Make sure the tiny center felt pressure pad is intact and not loose or missing.

Visual Inspection of the Tape Ribbon: If the visible tape looks wrinkled, warped, cup-shaped, or sticky, don't risk it.

Best Practices for Playing Unknown Tapes

The Initial Test Run: When trying a tape for the first time, manually fast-forward it all the way to the end and rewind it all the way back once. This helps pack the tape evenly and breaks up any minor friction inside the shell before the playback head makes full contact.

Keep Isopropyl Alcohol & Swabs Handy: Keep a bottle of 90%+ Isopropyl alcohol and standard cotton swabs nearby. If you play an old tape and notice the audio suddenly gets muffled or muddy mid-song, stop it immediately. It's likely shedding binder onto the head. A quick swab of the head and metal capstan will clean it right up."

UPDATE: my boy Blue came back. Guess he was on walkabout. Cat tax in comments.

First day in a while that Mr. Blue hasn't shown up to greet the shoppers. Prolly just out cattin', but think a good thought or two for me! He ain't a spring chicken. Funny how attached you get to the shower-uppers.
