🕸️ A Little Gothic in the Atrium…

This year, our Halloween homage takes a slightly gothic turn, pairing antique pewter, beautiful china and richly carved furniture with cobwebs, curious creatures and a little spooky charm.

The Dowager of Avonlea has been inspecting proceedings:

FROM THE DOWAGER OF AVONLEA’S DESK
A word to the pumpkin pilferer.

My dear,

For more than twelve years, Avonlea has decorated outside for the seasons without anyone confusing our displays with a complimentary collection service.

Until now.

Someone has removed our six-foot mound of pumpkins, which was firmly staked into the ground. This was hardly a pumpkin accidentally falling into a handbag. Some effort was involved. How unfortunate that none of it went towards earning one’s own decorations.

Those pumpkins were there for everyone to enjoy—a little autumn cheer for our customers, our neighbours, and those passing along the road.

To whoever decided their own enjoyment mattered more, I offer these seasonal wishes:

May your pumpkin spice latte always be lukewarm.
May your fitted sheet escape at every corner.
May every shopping trolley you select have one wheel with strong opposing views.
May your Thanksgiving gravy develop lumps that no amount of whisking can persuade to leave.
And may every photograph of your stolen display feature your thumb prominently across the lens.

One can apparently acquire six feet of autumn decorations and still possess not an inch of good manners.

You may return them to Avonlea. Quietly will do. Even the Dowager appreciates a late improvement in character.

Stealing the decorations does not make them yours. It merely makes the neighbourhood a little less lovely.
