According to reporting from The Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump has expressed frustration with Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary over the pace of decisions related to flavored v**e and ni****ne product approvals.
The report indicates that discussions took place within the White House regarding the role flavored va**ng products may play among certain voter groups, particularly younger supporters. Advisers reportedly raised concerns that delays in regulatory action could conflict with earlier campaign messaging, including a public commitment made in 2024 to support the va**ng industry.
At present, federal regulators have maintained a cautious approach. The FDA continues to require substantial scientific evidence demonstrating that flavored v**e products provide a meaningful benefit to adult smokers—while also addressing concerns about youth appeal. Because of this high standard, only a limited number of products (currently 41 owned by big to***co) have received authorization for sale, all restricted to to***co and menthol flavors.
