We hung my newest paintings yesterday.
I paired my new beach scene that my friends and family named "Serenity" and "Siblings" (the small atmospheric piece from a Pacific Northwest reference that I added orcas to) with some of my MerMay collection from a painting spree in 2022.

The challenge used a limited palette so the three paintings I did last week are darker and grayer than my usual bold colors.

I hung the fox with my kitchen pumpkins. The seascape I hung above. Lamp in the TV room for drama at night. I like comparing my work, I can see the progress, my strokes now are far more confident.

Since it is May do you think I should do some more paintings? Suggestions are welcome.

I finished this today to include the foreground must and the orca breath mist.
Adding the mist really grayed everything down, and if you know me, you know I am allergic to gray... So I added some colors back in and then layered more mist.

What do you think?

OMG! This is the class I have dreaded the most but I survived it and it is surprising me. I am not done... This is my half way stopping point. I feel really good about the lessons I learned this week and my ability to apply them to my painting style or voice.

I absolutely loved our trip to Alaska and Vancouver last Summer, so I had to throw in a couple of Orca friends. πŸ˜πŸ‹

Finished!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Rock is no more! I want to thank Benson Boone for helping me jam through this last part! Good energy is always helpful!

This is as far as I got today. I will finish it and repost it tomorrow.
As I was watching the live tutorial (I watch first, paint second) I became intimidated by the size of my canvas on deck. It was a 16x20, so I traded it out for the size our instructor used the 16x12. I am a bit of a crazy canvas lady so I have lots of choices in my art closet. This was a MUCH more manageable size for this lesson. (What was I thinking!?!)

I am so appreciative of how much I am learning as it helps me grow my confidence as an artist.

P.S. Don't worry about my big Rock that is currently throwing out Ninja Turtle vibes, I will fix that up tomorrow. πŸ˜†

Day One of Trees with the Acrylic University Community Landscape Challenge hosted by Jed Dorsey. I watched his 90 minute tutorial and then I watched it again as I painted. I can already see a difference in my tree structure. Plus a little atmospheric depth. This painting still has a ways to go to be completed but I feel good about where it is going... That my friends is true progress.

The Key Takeaways from Today’s Lesson:
🌿 Soft Edges: Trees aren’t solid objectsβ€”use broken edges where branches meet the sky.
🌿 Receding Values: Trees in the distance should be lighter and bluer to create depth.
🌿 Avoid Symmetry: Keep trees interesting by varying their shape, size, and spacing.

Day 5

Wow! This has been a wild ride of love and hate but also learning. I used a different reference picture but applied all the procedures Katie covered each day. I feel like this is a HUGE improvement over my first attempts at a beach scene. I am very grateful to Katie Jobling Art for this course.

Today I figured out what was off in my painting .. I added two rocks, a few more splashes and dealt with the purple turd cloud that was just hovering in the sky... So crazy, but I love it now.

Day 4

I fired myself twice today but here we are approaching the finish line. We were to apply texture and that is never easy for me.
