From the Whitefish Chain Yacht club

A wonderful summer is coming to an end but it’s not over yet as there are some activities planned on the lake! We are still looking west for a few drops of rain. Hopefully it is coming soon but there is a high probability it will not be enough to replenish the lakes this summer. If you have had to lengthen your dock or adjust your boat lift, you are in a club of many.

Corrine Hodapp from the Army Corp of Engineers had this to say about water levels controlled by the Pine River Dam at Crosslake:
- The Pine River Dam at Crosslake has been discharging minimum flow to maintain levels in the river (33 cfs) for about two months now.
- Since May 1st, we have received 3.53 inches of precipitation.
- Normal precipitation for our area May 1st – August 31st is 15.36 inches.
- Basically, we would need about 12” of rain between now and the end of August to get our rainfall amounts back to average.
- Cross Lake is currently about 7.5 inches below our normal desirable summer elevation, prediction is another .5 in the next few weeks if we don’t see rain.

I would recommend that people check with their boat lift companies to see what they recommend. I have heard several people starting to pull equipment in.

1.) Boat/Pontoon removal from lifts
2.) Getting your lakefront product onto shore with our equipment.
3.) launching our boat along with removing customer boats at the landing.
