🔥 THIS is exactly why dryers have safety devices! 🔥
We found this damaged heating element during a service call. The heating coils had become stretched and grounded out with the metal housing!
But here’s the important part: the dryer’s safety system did exactly what it was designed to do.
🌡️ When temperatures inside the dryer became unsafe, the thermal safety fuse opened the electrical circuit and shut the dryer down. Instead of continuing to operate under an overheating condition, the fuse sacrificed itself to help prevent the situation from becoming much more serious.
⚠️ A blown thermal fuse isn’t just a bad part—it’s often a warning.
Simply replacing the fuse without figuring out why it blew can leave the original problem unresolved. Restricted airflow, a clogged exhaust, overheating components, or a failing heating element can all contribute to excessive temperatures.
In this case, the safety device did its job. Now our job is to find and correct what caused it to activate before putting the dryer back into service.
🔥 This is also why you should never bypass a thermal fuse or other safety device—even temporarily. They’re there for a reason.
