It’s with a heavy heart that we, the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce Board, share some difficult news. After a great deal of thoughtful consideration and navigating some significant challenges in recent months, we and the Main Event Company have made the tough decision to suspend the Johnson City Market on the Square. Next Saturday's market (28th) will be the final market of the year.
We know how much the Market on the Square means to so many of you – our dedicated vendors, our loyal local shoppers, and the visitors who enjoy its unique charm. It's a place where we've connected, supported local artisans, and celebrated the spirit of Johnson City.
Please know that this decision was not made lightly. We understand this news is likely disappointing, and frankly, it’s disappointing for us too. The market has been a vibrant part of our town, and its absence will be felt. Looking ahead, the Chamber Board is committed to taking a thorough look at what has made the market special and where we've faced difficulties in recent years. We'll be working closely with the City, the County, and other local organizations to explore all possible paths forward for a vibrant community gathering in the future.
This is an important conversation for our community, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we take the time to thoughtfully consider what comes next. We are hopeful that by working together, we can find a way to bring back a market that truly serves and celebrates Johnson City.
