We have been extremely fortunate to host some amazing authors this year! is up next and is coming to us from Northern England as part of a book tour for the award-winning book "Those Who Vanish." Please come to support us - and this author! - on October 1st at 5:30 pm.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Taking place during the decades-long civil conflict, "Those Who Vanish" follows the stories of Guatemalan citizens and North American expats set on a collision course by war. Johnstown!!! We are so excited that downtown is becoming what we knew it was going to become! The incline is open, the new park is open and beautiful, we have award-winning author Ellen Prentiss Campbell at the bookstore tonight at 5:30, and then a free concert in the park afterwards. It’s a perfect day to spend the entire day downtown. What are you waiting for?! Enjoy *your* city!

This Thursday at 5:30 pm at Classic Elements! Come listen to Ellen Prentiss Campbell who has written several award-winning books. Vanishing Point is a family epic spanning three generations and a hundred years, from the 1880s to the 1980s. It is the story of Pennsylvania artist George Hetzel’s complicated family and explores their joys and sorrows, secrets and mysteries — and celebrates the enduring strength of love and art.

Ties to our geographic area - excerpt from nps.gov: George Hetzel is considered the father of the Scalp Level School of Painting. It was on a fishing trip that he discovered an area not far from Johnstown, PA, near the confluence of the Paint and Little Paint Creeks called Scalp Level. He was so struck by the beauty of the area that he influenced every faculty member of the Pittsburgh School of Design, where he taught a class in oil landscape painting, to accompany him the following summer to paint landscapes from nature. These fellow artists and students became known as Scalp Level Artists.

While downtown, make sure to stop by the Takin' Care of Business Free Concert sponsored by Chameleon Bookstore in the new Central Park. Grab dinner at Stonebridge Brewing Co., Balance Restaurant, Scott's By Dam, Game Plan on Market, Coney Island Johnstown, Vide Verde or one of the other many places to eat downtown. Make it a night!
