For the DIY guys!!! Want your wiring custom to your bike? Something better and more custom than out of the bag one size fits all mass produced cheap wiring with cheap components? We start with premium 100% virgin oxygen free copper power wire from Vault Power. There 4 gauge is our go to with 1862 strand count. It is also super flexible and easy to route.
From there a tinned copper lug with the correct 1/4” stud hole is then crimped on with a crimping machine. The flashing from the crimp is removed then taped from the lug to the wire insulation. This provides superior corrosion protection and handles all the current.
The braid is selected as well, “not amazon” as there is different grades of braid. The power wires are completely braided from battery to the amp, not partially or sections of the run.
The heat shrink that is used is also spec’d out. 3:1 heavy duty adhesive lined shrink is used to seal out moisture and make for a very secure fit.
Fuse holders are from Rhyno, these are bolt in MANL fuses. The fuse holders are modified by removing the mounting tab and drilled to accept the braided and shrinked wire.
The length of wire has some attention to it as well, the main fuse should be as close to the positive terminal as possible but still able to be tucked away. Power wire setups that have the main fuse under the right side cover are very common, running the positive wire right over the ground with zero protection. The entire point of the main fuse is to protect the battery from catastrophic shorts.
T spec distribution blocks have proven themselves to be a great reliable product. Again bolt in MANL fuses, compact, protected, and easy to install.
Then to finish the end point all wires have ferrules crimped on and adhesive lined heat shrink installed.
Here at Black Road Customs the phrase good enough, or nobody will see it, is never used. These attention to details take only a short amount of extra time but when it’s done, it’s fit, finish and performance is well worth it!
