✏️ I actually know a weird number of facts about pencils… of all things.
With school starting back over the next couple of weeks, I figured now was the perfect time to share them!
🟡 Ever wonder why almost every pencil is yellow?
Back in the late 1800s, the highest-quality graphite came from China. Because yellow was associated with royalty and honor in Chinese culture, manufacturers painted their pencils yellow to show they were “premium.” Before long, everyone copied the idea!
✏️ “Pencil lead” isn’t actually lead.
It’s made from graphite mixed with clay. People mistook graphite for lead hundreds of years ago, and the name has stuck ever since.
⬡ Why do most pencils have six sides?
The hexagon shape keeps them from rolling off your desk and makes them a little easier to grip while writing.
🌳 One average-sized tree can produce enough wood for around 170,000 pencils.
💭 I know… none of these facts are exactly life-changing. 😅
🧐But I think keeping your brain active, staying curious, and learning little random things makes everyday life a little more enjoyable.
