I’ve been seeing a lot of people posting regarding the dredge project in the inlet. I wanted to clear up some things. There is a sandbar directly to the south of the inlet, for years boats would exit the inlet and run south between the bar and the beach. As of recent this sandbar has filled in a lot and becoming exposed at low tide and still extremely shallow at high tide. Jupiter inlet district has done surveys of the area to provide boaters a clear passage out of the inlet. I would advise that if you are running out of Jupiter inlet to head ESE out of the inlet to avoid running aground.

The sand trap in the inlet must be dredged annually to allow for the inlet to be navigable. Jupiter Inlet District holds the permit for this project and they’re only allow to deposit the sand onto Jupiter beach between the inlet and ocean trail condos.

The army corps holds the permit for dredging closer to the lighthouse and Catos bridge. Their permit allows for them to deposit the sand from ocean trail to Carlin park.

I hope this helps clear any confusion. The town is not the responsible entity for these projects.

Unfortunately these projects must be done annually or the inlet would fill back in as it did over 100 years ago. Thank you!

Snook season is heating up in Jupiter! If you’re hitting the water this week, try a DOA shrimp or paddle tail along the docks—these lures look and move just like the real thing. Local tip: fish the outgoing tide for your best shot at a big one.
