We have a busy weekend!
Find us at two craft fairs this weekend.
This Saturday we will be at the Kaua’i Made Holly Jolly Holiday Fair from 9am-2pm.
On Sunday we will once again be at the Beach House Craft Fair from 9am-1pm.

We are reflecting on the reveal of the new Mana Wāhine Mural at the YWCA, who is celebrating 100 years serving Kauaʻi.

Last week, we were invited to set up shop, but also enjoyed the festivities such as a lovely performance by Hālau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leināʻala.

The mural is beautiful and its message and intention even more so.

Did you know that because Hawai'i has a tropical climate, we only have two seasons? A wet season and a dry season. These seasons are Hoʻolioo be and Kau.

Being conscious of the seasons allows you to know when it is the best time to fish, to plant and harvest your favorite plants, and of course the safest times to venture out into the forest or the sea. One of our favorite plants is hardy enough to bloom in both seasons, and that is Kou.

Kou is a tree, just like koa, that is also prized for its beautiful wood. Our Kou woodcrafts are ethically sourced locally, and we currently have some beautiful Kou pens in stock.

With the recent news about ‘Ōhi’a lehua becoming the official state tree of Hawai’i, we have the beautiful red color of the lehua blossoms on our mind. To help in the effort to protect trees from Rapid ‘Ōhi’a Death, we are making sure we clean our shoes & clothes well when/after we go hiking and, are not picking the blossoms for lei. As our beloved trees recover, we can wear other adornments that remind us of the lehua’s beauty; like the similarly beautiful reds of strawberry quartz.
