Just like that, my living room floor is covered with flowers and foliage again (I just got done carrying everything up 2 flights of stairs, ok? 😂) just starting to work on the arrangements for this week’s Smile Now, Bloom Later 🎭 Oahu Florist wedding, featuring (mostly) local flowers and foraged greenery, plus a rainbow of all different kinds of orchids 🪏✂️🌿 this might be one of the most colorful, vibrant tropical weddings I’ve ever done 🌺🐠🌴🦜

Update: roses are processed and will hopefully open up a little more for tomorrow. Wind and rain starting to come down kinda hard. My legs and feet are covered in mud. Shop is mostly cleaned up but still some storm prep to be done. But for now, I’m going home 😮‍💨🌧️🧹🫧🏝️

I have 5 bunches of roses that I have to finish processing for the next wedding coming up…but they’ll have to wait 😅 there’s still so much to clean from yesterday, and maybe even more flooding to come 🥀keep Hawai’i in your prayers, the storms just keep coming

Just another day picking up flowers for someone’s wedding 🌸 not shown: road construction everyyywhereee, the guy who wrecked his car TWICE right before my eyes at floradec, and the guy shipping his king sized mattress to the mainland (poor guy was at the back of the line at Hawaiian air cargo) 😭

Today marks 2 years working as a wedding florist. I began working in florals almost 10 years ago, but had never worked on a wedding until after dropping out of college, losing my apartment, and taking a position as a WWOOFer in windward Oahu. I worked about 17 hours a day between 2 jobs, became a lead designer by default, and learned through a LOT of trial and error how to successfully bring a couple’s vision to life. Then I got married myself, got my business license, and have continued honing my skills and trying new techniques, always working to improve and make a name for myself. (I’ve also definitely improved my photography skills 😂) The first slide is the very first wedding I helped to set up, and the last is from a wedding I completed a couple of days ago (where I got to do ANOTHER new thing: climb 20 feet in the air to hang greenery!!) Barefoot, sunburnt, in the mud, rain, wind, on shaky ladders, with dull shears, with nothing but zip ties and fishing line to hold onto, I’m proud of what I’ve learned and excited for where I’m headed. Here’s to a lot more flowers in the future 🌺🫶
