Big Open Book Club meets again this Thursday evening at 7. Come hang out for an hour or two with fellow book people, tell everyone what you’ve been reading lately, find out what other folks have been into, get some good ideas for what to read next, and maybe make a new friend or two. Feel free to bring a snack or drink to share!

Several neighborhoods in KCK were hit really hard by storms earlier this week. Hundreds of trees are down, hundreds of homes were badly damaged or destroyed, and lots of people still don't have electricity.

Third Friday Art Walk is back this weekend in Strawberry Hill! Art, music, and food vendors will take over 6th Street on Friday evening, and this month the KCK Farmer’s Market will be featured, with several local farm vendors, an art auction, and a sidewalk chalk art contest.

Here at Flagship, Chico Sierra Chico Sierra will drawing art and selling prints, Corien Shaw who manages the KCK Famer’s Market has drawn a new interactive mural that you can help color in, and it’s the last week of ourcommunity art table raising funds for AIRR: so far we’ve collected over $900 to donate to their emergency fund that helps support local families who have been impacted by ICE detentions - come buy some art to get it over $1000 before we write the check next week! You can also help by donating a piece or two of your own handmade art towards the fundraiser. Just bring it in to the bookstore any time.

Art Walk starts around 5pm on Friday and goes til 9pm, hope to see you there!

We’ve sold tons of copies of it, and this week the follow-up is finally here! 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝: 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈 has more creepy stories about monster hunts, Native American legends & mythology, and the daily horrors of racism & colonial occupation, by well-known indigenous authors like Stephen Graham Jones and Tommy Orange, as well as lots of new voices. We’ve got plenty of copies, so come pick one up!

Our next Strawberry Hill Singin’ Book Club is coming up in about two weeks! This time, we’re asking you to write a song or poem or respond in some other creative way to 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙙𝙮 by Stephen King. It does have some slightly creepy elements, but it’s more of a coming of age novel than the horror King is mostly known for; you might know the story from the movie 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙈𝙚, which is based on this book.

Hi from Alaska again, this time we’re at a little library/bookstore/coffeeshop in the mountain town of Hope. If all of our flights work out and we’re not too exhausted after flying all night, Flagship will be back open as usual starting at noon on Wednesday. See ya soon!

Hi from Alaska! Yesterday after exploring Anchorage and hiking to several waterfalls we visited Fireside Books, an excellent bookstore in Palmer, AK. Don’t forget that Flagship is closed through Friday this week while we’re on vacation, and Bird is running the store for us on Saturday and Sunday. We’ll be back on Wednesday next week.
