We want to take a moment to spotlight three books by women we think you should know about because in a women-owned bookshop, we think every day is a good day to read women writers. First up: we have a shop favorite, Magda Szabo’s The Door, a quietly unsettling & immediately engrossing Hungarian novel about an obsessive & fraught friendship between a middle aged writer & her elderly housekeeper. After that, we have the often overlooked American classic The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful commentaries on community, isolation, gender, & growing up. Lastly, don’t sleep on Spanish classic, Nada, a Lynchian domestic take on post-civil war Spain. It’s creepy & shocking & so hard to put down! What awesome books by women have you read lately?
