As we all know, one of the gravest issues facing our society is the amount of wobbly, ugly old piano benches that are forced to keep working well past retirement age.

We here at Upcycle have pledged to right this injustice by offering used benches in excellent condition to the public at fantastic prices. Stop by the showroom today, pick up a great bench and play comfortably again!

Make a day of it! If you park in our parking lot, we can validate your parking while you take the streetcar (it stops right outside) and head downtown for a day of activities. Your bench will be waiting for you when you come back.

Happy Hour at the Piano Shop is at Upcycle Piano Craft, Kansas City, every first Tuesday, 4.30-7.30pm. For five years, Happy Hour at the Piano Shop has brought Kansas City jazz lovers together every first Tuesday for an evening of great music and community. Along the way, we’ve welcomed many of KC’s great legacy jazz artists, including David Basse, Bram Wijnands, Joe Cartwright, Stan Kessler, and our own host, Tim Whitmer—along with many more. Today, Happy Hour is broadcast on KKFI and has been nominated Kansas City’s Best Jazz Listening Room by Jazz Ambassadors Magazine. We’re proud to keep Kansas City jazz alive, filling the room each month with beautiful music played on some of the finest instruments anywhere.

Tomorrow, Greg Whitfield and Samba Jazz take to the Happy Hour at the Piano Shop stage!

Greg started out playing oboe at age 9, switched to bass at 14 and has been playing professionally since he was 15. He has attended music programs at KU and UMKC, studied privately for 3 years with jazz master John Elliot and played in John's trio.

Greg has played all local and regional jazz festivals, the Berlin Jazz Festival, 1992 Worlds Fair in Seville Spain and performed at Club Med in the Caribbean.

He can be heard on recordings by Sons Of Brasil, Greg Meise, Four Friends, Steve Million, Dave Brandom, Steve Cardenas, Angela Hagenbach & The Trilogy Big Band. Currently, Greg is playing with his group Samba Jazz, Sons Of Brasil, Stan Kessler, Aaron Sizemore, Joe Cartwright, Rob Whitsitt, Brian Ruskin, Brad Allen and others.

Samba Jazz plays classic Brasilian tunes and originals with modern jazz arrangements.

Join us for some cool Brasilian Jazz.

School is just around the corner, and many students will be taking their first piano lessons. Just like a dull pencil or a calculator with sticky buttons will discourage a student from doing their homework, an aging and tired instrument with mechanical issues will not be inspiring to practice on.
