Went to CRAFT + COFFEE yesterday with …to let go of the daily grind, to ignore my scheduled days, to oppose my appointment-filled calendar, to laugh in the face of my busy life as it unfolds before me.

Sometimes I gotta step back and say: “STOP!”

Because this is not what I want!

To drown in life. To let life live me and not me live life.

It’s hard to break away from the rut, which interestingly enough doesn’t feel like a rut while I power through the day.

But at night, when I fall into bed exhausted, and find myself making a mental list of all the things I have to do tomorrow, adding all the things I didn’t quite get done today…then it becomes clear! I am in a rut.

MAHALO to Shannon for letting me play with paper and glue, color and texture.
MAHALO for some much needed completely unscheduled unbridled fun and creativity!!!

What do you do to take time off from life? Any craft circles, creative classes? Any moments you take for yourself like a walk, reading a book, writing a letter?
Please share your inspirations in the comments for us!
Aloha, a.

What are you going to do when the storm hits?
When it’s too windy to hang out at the beach? When golf isn’t your idea of a fabulous day? When you need a break from driving around all day?
When you just need one day of relaxing?

Come over to Hawaiian Artisans and check out our cute watercolor painting kits! ❤️‍🔥 They include everything you need to paint a tiny piece of art.

Imagine yourself on your lanai overlooking the ocean, the mountain, the valley, the river… you get the idea…
You pull out your painting kit and just paint 🎨
A quiet moment wherever you are, away from the hustle of life! Just. Imagine. 😌

I’ll be the first one to admit that I am pretty bad, no, theee worst at painting. And believe me, I keep trying!
But these little images!!! Yeah, I can see myself doing those, in my own time, my own space, just for me.
Don’t let your inner critic stop you from getting creative with watercolors!! Come in and check ‘em out!

Also….a storm IS coming!! This afternoon around 3 pm. And it’s supposed to hang around through the weekend…
So prepare to paint!!!

KAUAI AS WHY!

Check out the amazing chicken art by Louda Larrain…

“Sooo….what’s up with all the chicken on Kauai?”

Early Polynesian Settlers first brought chickens, called red junglefowl (moa) to the Hawaiian Islands around 800 years ago. (Wow!!)
These “original chickens” established the initial wild, or feral population on the islands, roaming freely across the lands.

After Captain Cook’s arrival in 1778, European and American settlers brought different, domesticated chicken breeds and coops with them. But chickens have a mind of their own, especially Kauai red junglefowl! They only laughed at the coops, and showed those timid newcomers what’s what…
😉
The current, large population of feral chickens in Hawaii—particularly on Kauai—is a hybrid mix of the original Polynesian red junglefowl and the domestic, farm-raised chickens.

While chickens have now been free-roaming for centuries, major hurricanes, particularly Iwa in 1982 and Iniki in 1992, destroyed chicken coops on Kauai, allowing domesticated birds to escape and prosper because they also don’t have any natural predators!

JOIN ME for the first ever March Wish Collab!

THIS SUNDAY, March 1 at 11 am PST, we are hosting a live “Wish Collab” session on Instagram.

I wish y’all could just come over to the shop and each have their own paper to write their wish on… but I think this will be the next best thing!!
Here’s how it works (hopefully😆):
Think of a wish for your March; something you’d like to manifest/realize. Next, throughout this week, DM us your first name. It will be the stand-in for your wish.😌
Then meet us on Instagram at 11 am PST this coming Sunday for a little live session. We’ll have all the names ready to be written down. I’ll read your names and write them on the wish paper. And then I’ll light the wishes! That’s the moment when we need to let our wish envelop us, run through us, through our hearts and up up into the air. We’ll watch them fly up and out into the universe! 😀
Hope to see you on Sunday!!! I am excited!!!😆

Nostalgia has a beautiful new face. 🕯️

Yes, I know battery-operated candles are practically ever-lasting, convenient, safe, and can - for the right price - look realistic. But that’s just it… they only l o o k 👀 realistic.

I’m not gonna lie, I have several of these candles and I love the way they turn themselves on at a certain time.
When I come home from work during the winter, I am greeted by candlelight. When I go to bed, the room is already awash in candlelight as I step through the door.

Convenience aside, I yearn for the candle that lights with the strike of a match not with the push of a button.
I love to hear the crackle when flame meets wick, grabs hold, quietly settles and then effortlessly breathes warmth into any room. Its glow is nostalgic, irreplaceable.

Our candles hail from Maui and tantalize the senses!

Settled in an artful tin, their light unfolds across a room, their quiet fragrance drifts across the air carrying with it a delicious calm.

Are the names and flowers filling your mind with a memory, a story long forgotten? Do your nostrils flare? Just a little bit?

I say: INDULGE! For Yourself, for a friend. What better gift to give than a candle wrapped in beauty and bringing with it the unmistakable scent of the Hawaiian Islands.
Aloha 🌺
