"Ninpo: Wisdom for Life" by Masaaki Hatsumi was for many years, this unique book was only available in Japanese. Hatsumi-sensei, soke of Togakure Ryu and founder of the Bujinkan Hombu (Japan), authorized and encouraged this translation which was officially released in the 1999. This amazing book has approximately 188 pages of ninja philosophy for training and living.

The "Tenchijin Ryaku no Maki" (blank) training journal is a dedicated companion for practitioners of the Bujinkan martial arts, designed to support dojo study and exploration of our foundational material. This journal is broken down into three chapters, Ten ryaku no maki (天略の巻), Chi ryaku no maki (地略の巻), and Jin ryaku no maki (人略の巻), and provides plenty of space for recording lessons, concepts, and insights related to training.

Some listings included are Taihenjutsu (体変術), Kihon Happo (基本八法), Kamae (構え), Hoken Juroppo (宝拳十六法), Hajutsu Kyuho (破術九法), Torite Kihon Dori (捕手起本捕), Gyaku Waza (逆技), Nage Gata (投型) with Suwari Gata (坐り型 ), Nage Gaeshi (投返), Muto Dori Gata (無刀捕型), and Santo Tonko (鼠逃遁甲).

There are times when a martial artist can become crazy, such as with egomania, an inferiority complex, paranoia, or hypersensitivity ( which makes you believe someone is attempting to harm you ). For instance, if you were to become an egomaniac, you might think you were strong, almost a hero. An inferiority complex may come when you keep losing and it will make you think you are not good at all or that you do not have the talent to be a martial artist. Paranoia makes you think your opponent looks stronger and causes you to think of how you may be thrown, hit, cut, and killed.
Hypersensitivity makes you think somebody is trying to attack you because you have numerous openings ( suki ). In the process of training, we all come to have one or more of these illnesses.

Only a balanced individual can exist in this “world of craziness” and move beyond it to become a true master.
