Sharing yesterday's find. A quick trip up to the Austin area yesterday to look at some books and ended up not only a few boxes of books but a group of southern bonds and a old collection of ancient artifacts. Lots of new things to research

I thought I would share another cool piece of history.
A Nathaniel G. Whitmore heavy barrel target rifle with a original full length scope manufactured around 1870.
This thing is really cool and heavy, in .45ish caliper the scope glass is really clear and still has the original crosshairs.
WHITMORE, Nathaniel G.
Rifle maker. Born at Mansfield, Mass., in 1829, and learned the trade in his father's shop. Worked for Sharps Rifle Co. and Remingtons. Died at Eastondale, Mass., in 1917. Maker of a heavy barrel, muzzle loading, percussion, target rifle with double set triggers. A presentation rifle by Whitmore was gift to Gen. U. S. Grant from the citizens of Providence, R. I., and is now in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C.

Finally had time late last night (about 11) to open the mail. I should have done a video with all the whoops and hollers I was doing. I present to you one of the rarest bowie knifes you could find, with provenance back to at least 1948 and supposedly captured by a member of the Irish Brigade.
A Nashville Plow Works (Sharps and Hamilton) Brass D-Guard Bowie Knife. Not in the best condition, but just to find one is hard enough.

Happy 4th everyone. I hope y'all have a safe and enjoyable day.
