The Stein Super Ground Cube finally arrived after being detained by an overzealous customs agent. This thing is big, almost 9 inches a side and 12 pounds. I have it plugged in to my Stealth power conditioner. So far it is working as advertised. More natural separation and blackness. My speakers may have completed their final disappearing act with this in place.

On a recent, really late evening, my phone chimed nearly nonstop as good friend and fellow high-end audio enthusiast Finnbogi Sigurdur Marinosson urgently slid into my DMs. Finnbogi and I are fairly obsessive hardware geeks, and he’d just descended into an inexplicable, almost incomprehensible jou...

LUMIN X2 review!

The Absolute Sound have published their fantastic review of LUMIN X2 while also sharing experiences of LUMIN L2 Music Library.

During the review, Neil Gader states:
-----------
"...for Lumin everything up to this point has been prologue to the X2.”

"The Lumin X2 excels in an almost clairvoyant ability to communicate the lifelike silences in a venue, the musical rests and pauses, the decay of a note, the moments when players and audience alike are taking a breath."

"...as if hearing that piece of music for the first time through a fresh set of ears. Rediscovery."

"it exuded a tingly presence factor, a centeredness and poise that elevated the physical and tactile to a higher level"

"The sheer musicality and naturalism of the Lumin X2 blows past the data and transcends commonly quoted stats..."
-----------

The Absolute Sound issue 372 July/Aug 2026 is available to buy online and on newstands now!

Thank you to our US distributor Source Systems for organising this review unit.

The newest DAC from Garlubidor, the Phantom, sits at the entry level of the line. A very promising R2R design with Divinity DNA. $1299 from Tweek Geek.

The Phantom from Garlubidor is the little brother of the Divinity DAC. Like the Divinity, it is an R2R style DAC with a volume control, balanced and single ended outputs, OXCO clocks and a linear power supply. So far all that can be discerned from the available information is that there is only one....
