With all the turmoil, extreme weather, worldwide news, and the constant stream of information that seems to amplify chaos, it’s easy to forget that there is still so much good — and so much that is positive — in our world.
So what can push back against the feelings of helplessness, negativity, anger, and frustration?
Belief.
Knowledge.
Action.
Good people.
Good work.
Positive intentions.
Strong communities.
Creativity.
The artists creating from imagination.
The makers building things with their hands.
The craftspeople preserving skills and traditions.
The designers turning ideas into something tangible.
The musicians, writers, photographers, builders, inventors, gardeners, chefs, and countless other creators who bring something new into the world.
But it’s not only the creators.
It’s the teachers teaching.
The nurses caring.
The farmers growing.
The drivers delivering.
The mechanics fixing.
The workers building and maintaining.
The people cleaning, cooking, serving, stocking, repairing, organizing, protecting, helping, and doing the thousands of everyday jobs that keep our communities functioning.
It’s the parent showing up.
The neighbor checking in.
The stranger holding the door.
The volunteer giving their time.
The person choosing patience when anger would be easier.
It’s people.
People creating instead of destroying.
Helping instead of dividing.
Choosing solutions over complaints.
Learning instead of assuming.
Building instead of tearing down.
Doing their part — whether that part is highly visible or quietly happening every day.
Some people create art.
Some create businesses.
Some create music.
Some create solutions.
Some create opportunities.
Some simply create a better day for someone else.
And all of it matters.
There is still so much good happening every single day. So many people are using their hands, minds, hearts, skills, time, and talents to make something, fix something, help someone, or simply keep the world moving forward.
Sometimes we simply need to choose where we place our attention — and intentionally give more of it to the people, ideas, actions, creativity, kindness, craftsmanship, and everyday contributions that make our world better.
These labors are what matters.
