Yesterday was one for the books. 🤍
When Vanessa asked me to do the centerpieces for her wedding, I don’t think I fully understood what it would end up meaning to me. Vanessa isn’t just my cousin. She’s been one of my longest friends — someone I’ve grown up alongside, shared so many seasons of life with, and now had the privilege of watching marry the love of her life.
And somehow, I got to fill the tables on one of the biggest days of her life with flowers. This was my first wedding, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. There were months of planning, growing, second guessing, counting stems, watching the weather, wondering what would be blooming at exactly the right time, sourcing what I couldn’t grow myself, and more than a few moments of wondering what on earth I had gotten myself into. 😂
But then yesterday I stood in that room and looked at all the vases filled with flowers — and it hit me just how special this was.
These weren’t just centerpieces to me.
They were something I got to create with my own hands for someone I have loved for all of my life.
There is something incredibly full-circle about growing flowers from tiny seeds and plants, tending to them for months, cutting them from my own garden, and then seeing them sitting on the tables while my cousin celebrated the beginning of her marriage surrounded by everyone who loves her.
I learned SO much through this experience. I stressed more than necessary 😂. I gained a whole new appreciation for wedding florists. And I walked away feeling incredibly proud of what Acres of Ames is becoming.
But more than anything, I’m just grateful. Grateful that Vanessa trusted me with a little piece of such an important day. Grateful that this little flower-growing adventure of mine gave me the opportunity to do something so personal for her. And grateful that after all these years of growing up together, I got to stand back and watch her begin this beautiful new chapter.
Congratulations, Vanessa and Ryan. 🤍 It was an absolute honor to flower your wedding.
