This weeks spotlight vendor is Tracy and Tracy’s Maine Made!

Tracy started about four years ago, when she had so much fabric that she wanted to use and started making things and selling. She taught herself how to make everything via YouTube. Most of the patterns are pretty straight forward and with her years of quilt making experience, getting started expanding her craft was easy.
She uses all cotton fabrics for her items.
Currently, the potholders are her favorite. Everyone can use them in their home and they are so colorful and fun. All lined with insulation layers to make them user friendly.
For the potholders, she makes them in batches and it’s a much quicker process than the quilts so she can make a lot of them quickly.
Tracy doesn’t have favorite patterns. She tries to find a variety of different styles based on what people like so there is a lot of nature and Maine featured in her items.
Her new products this year placemats and table runners. Her best selling item is potholders.

Tracy sells at the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace all summer with her sister, as well as a couple shows around Christmas.

She lives right next to the market so very easy for her to come. Loves seeing people in town that she knows and interacting with new customers as well.

This week our spotlight vendor is Ana and Gothic Gardens.

This is Ana’s second year selling as Gothic Gardens but her first year going all in with it and selling at markets.

Ana began her candle making while at home trying to thing of something to do. She knew she wanted to make something with candles, so she got some molds and started creating. Her motto is “bringing a little bit of Halloween into everyday” when coming up with designs and themes to create her pieces.

To make the candles, Ana starts with a mold. She then adds a 50/50 blend of bees wax and soy wax. The candles get durability from the bees wax and the soy wax helps prevent black smoke and residue. Each candle has a different scent based on the color— blue for teakwood, red for pumpkin spice, white for unscented, etc. The scents come from essential oils.

Gothic Gardens has become a family affair. She creates concrete sculptures with the help from her dad— they even make their own concrete mixture. Then Ana will paint them by hand before putting them up for sale. Her resin sculptures are done with the help of her grandpa. It has become a great way for her and her family to spend time together.

Ana is locally based, out of the Lake Arrowhead area. Being on the lake, there are many dragonflies around her home. She has begun create bookmarks and necklaces from the dragonfly wings she finds outside. Each one is unique and the wings sparkle in many different ways depending on how you hold it in the light. She either uses gems or UV resin to stick the wings in place where she wants them.

Ana’s best selling product is the dragonfly bookmarks. People love how unique they are!
Her favorite to make is typically a toss up between the bookmarks and the candles. But she enjoys all of it, so her favorite really depends on which week you are asking her!

Ana’s favorite market part of coming to the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace is getting to meet all of the people and the fact that the market helps her set a weekly routine by allowing her to have a stable place to set up and be each week.

The spotlight vendor this week is CopeCraft and Chauncey!

He spent his childhood summers on the CT shore fishing, clamming, and taking daily excursions to see what the tides had washed ashore overnight. He especially enjoyed collecting driftwood and seeing what image from nature was reflected in each piece. His interest in wood art began in 1978 while working on a piece of scrap wood using an old soldering iron, which is the same one he still uses today! Thoroughly enjoying this wood-burning/pyrography technique, and the aroma of burned wood, he continued this effort on driftwood, barn board, etc. This also lead to experimentation of this wood-burning technique but utilizing gel pens instead.

Full time work, family, public service, etc. did limit the amount of time one could spend in these efforts however.
It was only after retiring and moving to Kennebunk that was he able to focus his attention on this craft. In 2017, he applied to the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace and so enjoyed the venue and the opportunity to interact with others that he knew that he would want to be a vendor at each Saturday event. He continues to bring to the Marketplace his nature-themed gel pen artwork, wood-burned pieces of art such as cutting boards and serving trays, and wood carvings. His sister also contributes, and creates beautiful Maine C**n Cat portrait notebooks!

This week out spotlight vendor is Raelinda and Story Teller Jewelry!

Raelinda has been making jewelry since the 1980s, when she got a job a right out of art college at a jewelry studio. Jewelry making was the only thing she didn’t study in art college! She told herself the job was going to be temporary but fell in love with the craft. She became very close with her employer and they are still friends to this day!

Her employer encouraged her to follow her dream of being a story teller. Raelinda started performing in coffee houses and folk festivals, she even started Story Lab in Cambridge, MA for spoken word events. When she went back to jewelry making, she wanted to be able to include her story telling so she created jewelry that could feature it— a wearable story! She creates pins now with her stories hidden inside. She offers angel wings with a scroll of paper for customers to create their own story or message for a loved one.

When she is coming up with new items for her shop, her ideas usually stem from being bored with what she is currently making. Then she begins to brainstorm what else can be made and how to incorporate story telling into it. Raelinda likes everything she makes to have meaning, Whether it is making people feel good about themselves or something with writing to inspire others.

Her favorite items to make are the blessing holders (angel wings), she gets really meaningful feed back from customers with these. A lot of people give them as gifts to others.
Her best selling items are the spell ornaments.

Whether or not any one buys anything, she wants her customers to feel a little bit better when they leave her booth— her goal is to have a positive interaction with everyone she meets!

Todays spotlight vendor is Michael J Reardon Fine Art:

Michael began coming to the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace this year. He has been painting on and off for 18 years, but has been full time painting for past 5 years. He moved up for MA to do this full time.

Michael always loved to draw and stuff like that. He saw a Bob Ross video on tv while painting his bathroom and started doing his techniques on the walls. He started with still life’s, then began reproducing Thomas Kincaid. Then naturally he progressed into creating things he likes and went from there. His preferred medium is oil paints. He doesn’t have a favorite theme of painting topics. He does everything— people, animals, landscapes, etc.

The time each painting takes to complete depends on a lot of factors. Everything is done in layers, so each portion needs to dry before he can begin adding more details. Some paintings he can complete in a week other can take around a month.

This week our spotlight vendor is All Sales are Vinyl with Brian and Cindy!

Brian and Cindy have been creating and selling their vinyl flowers for 13 years. Their sister started the nonprofit Universal Promise 16 years ago to benefit South Africa. The first time they visited, they learned that the school there didn’t have any clean water. During that trip, they decided that they would find a way to raise money using this as their initiative. Now all of their proceeds from sales go to help out clean water systems in schools in South Africa.

Cindy chose vinyl flowers because it was something that connected her to her childhood- specifically being 10 years old and in Girl Scouts. Melting a record was one of the activities they did and she never forgot it. Something that was important to Brian and Cindy for starting this endeavor was not buying something to make something to sell something, They wanted to use things that were already in circulation. When the idea of creating vinyl flowers became solidified, people began donating their records to help the cause. To this day, they have never bought a record to create on of their flowers. They are able to work entirely from donations. Even the decorative center plate in the flowers are donations they have received. Their motto is “local recycling with a global impact”.

The process to make these flowers starts with a black vinyl record. The record gets heated in an oven and shaped around the center piece or a reshaped form. After it cools, the record will either get spray painted or left black. Then the records get assembled together as flowers and listed for sale. Brian and Cindy have found that this process is enjoyable and the flowers are fun to make. They have also found that people really resonate with their cause.

Their best selling flowers are the dual color flowers. Cindy’s favorite to make are the tricolor flowers. They have lots of options to choose from!
Their favorite thing about coming to the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace is meeting people from all walks of life. They enjoy connecting with their customers and having a memorable experience.

This week, our spotlight vendor is Becky and Busy Bee Pottery!

Becky has been doing pottery since the fall of 2019. She took a pottery class with friend and got hooked! She hand builds her pottery, but looking to get back into throwing, as that’s how she learned.

She started attending and selling at markets because she had a whole table of stuff she created that she didn’t know what to do with! For creating her pottery she gets new ideas and wants to keep trying new things to see how they do. If a piece sells well, she will keep making similar versions of it. Lately, she has been really focusing on making miniatures as that is what people are trending towards buying most.

Her best sellers are the trinket dishes and flower frogs! Becky’s favorite things to make are currently the little animal figures she refers to as “littles” and they are adorable.

Her favorite part of coming to the market is talking with customers and getting to meet the dogs! She’s made many friends here so enjoys seeing them every week as well!

This week our spotlight vendor is Phebe and Phebe Sunrise Studio!

This is her first season selling her products post-college, and also her first time at the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace.

Phebe started creating greeting cards because it was something easy and accessible to do. Originally she used watercolor as her medium. At the end of high school, she transitioned from watercolor to block printing. During college, she really began to concentrate on block printing and print making while she was studying studio art.

To begin her print making process, Phebe finds a photo she has taken to use for a sketch. She takes a lot of photos of memories, being outdoors, and nature then uses this to draw inspiration for her art. So she creates the sketches and mock ups for her design in pencil. The design then gets transferred to blocks and she starts carving it out. This process takes a long time, but is a fun process for her and she enjoys it very much. Once the design has been carved into the block, ink gets rolled on to blocks and she figures out what material to print onto. Currently, she prints on paper and different types of cloth. She also hand makes a lot of the paper she prints on to. The shirts she uses for printing are up cycled, she tries to have an eco conscious perspective when creating.

Her favorite item to make is wall prints. She enjoys how satisfying and crisp the finish product is.
Her best selling items currently are her tea bag prints and her driving print.

Phebe is most looking forward to interacting with other vendors and customers at the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace and hearing their stories/how them resonate with her art. She loves the joy of sharing art and creativity with anyone she can.

This week our spotlight vendor is Kristin and K Crochet !!

Kristin created K Crochet after learning to crochet during the pandemic. Her favorite thing about it is that, in a world that’s become increasingly focused on mass produced items, crochet truly showcases the value of handmade, one of a kind products.

Her products focus on a floral and botanical theme and range from functional items like granny square handbags and bookmarks to whimsical decor items such as hanging plants and flowers. You can even build your own bouquet from the many crochet flowers she offers!

Some of her best sellers are bags and earrings. Her favorite items to make are scarves with chunky yarn as they are quick and rewarding. She also really enjoys crafting granny squares, which she uses to make her bags.

Kristin's favorite part about coming to the Kennebunk Artisans Marketplace is the community, because everyone is very nice and welcoming. She also enjoys the great location!

This week our spotlight vendor is Laurel Hill Designs with Nancy and Debbie!

Nancy and Debbie have been friends for over 40 years but creating with Laurel Hill Designs for three and a half years.
Nancy started after surgery to keep herself busy during recovery. She had done a bit a long time ago in college and thought it would be good to get back into. She thought asking Debbie to join her would be fun!
And they do have a lot of fun working together! They go to a beading class in North Hampton, New Hampshire called Bead Creative. This is where they get all their beads and do their creating together.
This is mostly a social experience but they learn a lot as well.

Their best selling items are the Tula bracelets, which are made with glass tile beads.
They both have different favorite items to make. Debbie enjoys making tila bracelets, while Nancy enjoys the kumihimo necklaces (long process about 8 hours to make).

Their favorite things about the market are meeting all the vendors and seeing the beautiful creations they make. They love the venue and getting to come back to the same place every week.
