What happens to the stone that doesn’t make it into a project?
This is our favourite kind of answer. Marte Mei van Haaster and SolidNature built ‘Offcut Puzzle’ — warehouse remnants scanned, mapped and rebuilt into seamless patterns for floors, walls and furniture. Nothing wasted. Everything reworked.
Rosso Levanto, pink onyx, travertine, honey calcite — pieces that would have sat on a pallet forever, now reading as one continuous surface. Marte Mei designs it; Solid Nature contributes the material, expertise and production.
Elements of the work are part of Marte Mei’s solo exhibition ‘Mending Lands’ at ST VINCENTS in Antwerp.
We love stone, and we love people who refuse to waste a single slab of it.

Above the clouds, cut from the earth.
Herzog & de Meuron turned a 1980s telecoms tower on Mount Titlis into something else entirely — and inside it sits what TITLIS calls the highest Rolex boutique in the world, 3,000+ metres up in the Swiss Alps.
Look past the crown for a second and follow the stone. That deep green, white-veined marble isn’t a one-off feature wall — it comes back as the round table in the lounge, top and pedestal both, two rooms apart. Against it, a second family: a dark speckled granite doing the display plinths and the boutique’s centre table, so the watches sit on the heavier stone and the room breathes with the lighter one.
That’s the whole trick. Two stones, used with discipline, and a retail space at altitude reads like a mountain interior instead of a mall. Nothing else can carry a room like that — because it was already ancient before the architecture existed.
Opened June 2026.
