A little more about Shay👇
Founder Shay Woodhouse was born 5th generation on a potato farm in Oakley, Idaho, and received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2018. Since then, she has resided in Boise where she has a full-time studio practice and runs The Clay Collective offering classes and art shows to her community. In her Boise studio her original work is handcrafted using polymer- and plastic-free natural stoneware, earthenware and porcelain clay bodies – 100% from the earth -- and hypoallergenic precious metals: 14k gold or sterling silver. Shay designs jewelry to be worn every day, during the most special moments in life, and for all of her work to be inclusive, timeless and heirloom quality.

This is Independent Goods and how it all started --
In 1999, Susan and Mark met and found that one of the things that drew them together was story telling. Hilarious adventures with friends, favorite childhood memories, and unknowingly the idea of Independent Goods was being created. Couple that with a love of giving unique products as gifts, the idea of the store went from a long-off dream to a reality and opened Independent Goods in November 2016.

Almost ten years later we continue to honor the vision Independent Goods: showcase small batch products while telling the brand story (and as a special thank you with each purchase a card with the brand story is given).

When we moved to Ketchum, Idaho, in 2013, Susan wanted to learn about the history of the area and landed a part time job with Trailing of the Sheep Festival as Food and Beverage Director. Knowing nothing about sheep ranching nor much about coordinating food events - she jumped in and had the time of her life, meeting extraordinary people, learning about the rich culture in Idaho, more about sheep and lamb the she ever thought possible, and a huge respect for chefs and how much they do behind the scenes.
This weekend marks the 30th anniversary of the Festival. If you haven't been, you should, if you are here - enjoy, pull up a seat and learn from this incredibly rich history here in .

🍸 Olivas (Olive) coasters are made the old fashioned way and screened by hand north of Barcelona in a Catalan town of 700 people. Josep Motas (ceramist) and Irina Grosu (artist) design and produce tiles using traditional materials and methods. Their designs reflect their main interests in mathematical designs (modular objects to patterns) to mural art and ceramics. The mix of interests results in ingenious prints. Their designs have caught the eye and have been showcased in museums and multiple publications around the world. The incredible design is coupled by the fact that each tile is individually silkscreened by hand, making each uniquely yours by Josep & Irina.

The french rolling pin is believed to have début in the late 18th century by French bakers who perfected the solid hardwood rod with tapered ends to maximize maneuverability and tactile control over delicate pastry doughs, distinguishing it from later handle-based designs.

Paul Paulville Goods has been part of Independent Goods since 2017. We distinctly remember contacting the Austin-based artist to be part of Independent Goods and telling him about - . He wrote back quickly and said he knew exactly where we were located bc his cousins live in nearby town and he had very fond memories of visiting as a child. With a population of under 10,000 felt like a pretty small world.
This was the first of very many small world connections at Independent Goods.
With each piece of artwork Paul usually tucks in a bit of his own personal loves and history: Growing up in the mountains and living half of my adult life at the beach, this truck represents both. Inspired by photographer Chris Burkard who documents his adventures all over the globe in his Land Rover.

We are so very thankful to have a Shop that allows us + you support small batch, humans, telling stories through craft.
