Hannah Carter & I went for a morning walk to find the grave of serial killer HH Holmes

i had always thought that he was just in a concrete vault beneath that, but it’s even weirder: when he was exhumed in 2017 (a descendant had a history channel series and was trying to prove that he was either a. jack the ripper and/or b. he conned someone into standing in for him at the gallows), they found a concrete filled coffin with no body, and then a secret second coffin beneath it, also filled with concrete. the body was underneath the slab in the lower coffin. because he was encased in concrete, his clothes were still in tact & moustache was still attached to the skull, but the rest of him was liquified & had to be pumped out (gross). the bones were tested, and it was definitely him, but they had no secrets to spill about jack.

we found the exact location, and it is an unremarkable stretch of grass across two plots but was a very fun cemetery adventure on a sunny summer morning

When I select books for Haute Macabre, I always add what I have already used as reference or would use in my magical practice. Unhexing, candle magic, and High John the Conquerer workings are all spells I have regularly performed in my witchcraft and sorcery.

Yes, I come from the grave.

From the Haute Macabre archives 🗝️ an updated visit to one of my favorite paranormal stories, The Enfield Poltergeist.

Plaguing the Hodgsons family in a London suburb in the late 1970s, the entity would throw furniture around, drag the children out of bed, and terrorize the family.

Poltergeist activity is hypothesized to be triggered by girls entering puberty (really, patriarchy? We’re responsible for sin and ghosts?), as an energetic manifestation of the hormone time-bomb of pre-teendom. This is why it centered its activity around Janet, the 11 year old girl, and would speak through her in a guttural voice (or because she was behind all the shenanigans herself.).

Footage of the voice, still images, police quotes, and the death certificate of the entity posted to the blog. After you watch it, what do you think? Was the house haunted by the ghost of its previous resident, or were the kids just putting everyone on?
