Samhain (pronounced sow-in or sah-win) is an ancient Celtic festival meaning “summer’s end” that marks the end of the harvest season, the start of the dark half of the year, and the Celtic New Year on November 1 (beginning at sundown on October 31).

Core Spiritual Meanings

• The Thinning of the Veil: Samhain is viewed as a liminal, in-between time when the boundary between the physical world and the spirit realm (the Otherworld) becomes very thin.
• Honoring Ancestors: It is a sacred time to remember, welcome, and pay respects to deceased loved ones, elders, and ancestors who have passed on.
