🍽️ Booked for Dinner: Spanglish
Saturday, Sep 12th | 6-8 PM

We're cooking our way through Spanglish: Recipes & Stories by Monti Carlo, a soulful tribute to growing up between Puerto Rico and Houston, Texas, where continental American classics meet the bold flavors of the island. Think bacalaíto-battered onion rings, tamarind roast chicken, sorullo waffles with pique honey, and a no-bake morir soñando cheesecake. Yes, we're already thinking about the cheesecake too.

With over 65 recipes and stories woven throughout, it's part cookbook, part love letter, and a beautiful celebration of Boricua identity and the way food carries us between two worlds.

Grab your ticket, bring your appetite, and join us for an evening of good food, good company, and even better conversation.

We had a fantastic June and July, but August slowed down considerably. As a small business, we know to expect this but it’s still a pinch when it comes. Sooo, if you need a book, come browse our website or stop in the store to snag one (or three). We have a 25% off End of Summer sale going on right now and there are literally hundreds of books on sale.

You can also shop our Back-to-School Books to Ukraine Book Drive, happening through the end of October. We are aiming to ship 500 books over to Ukraine this Fall and this is an easy way to help us get there.

Links for both are in our bio. Thanks for supporting a small-town bookstore in rural Virginia.

She made a deal with the devil so she'd never have to be forgotten, and then everyone forgot her anyway. The irony is not lost on us.

Join us September 16th for Banned Book Club as we tackle The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. 300 years, one curse, and a hidden bookstore that changes everything. We have thoughts. You probably will too.

Bring your notebook, or at least your best people watching face.

We're thrilled to host Cali Adeline for an evening celebrating her debut novel, People Watching in the Desert.

Sonny has spent her life watching from the sidelines, turning strangers into stories and keeping the real world at a safe distance. But a stay at a luxury Arizona resort starts closing that gap in ways that are funny, warm, and quietly gut punching. This is the kind of debut that sneaks up on you.

Join us Friday, September 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Bookshelf on Church for a conversation with Cali herself.

🎟 $45, includes a hardcover copy of the book
🎟 $20, general admission, no book included

Tickets are limited, so grab yours before all the good seats (and copies) are gone.

Grab a seat, this one's going to spark some conversation.

Our next Fiction Book Club pick is A Guardian and a Thief by Megha Majumdar, and it is not messing around. Set in a near-future Kolkata, it follows a mother days away from fleeing a collapsing city with her family, until her purse (and their immigration documents) gets stolen. What follows is a week of desperation, hard choices, and two families just trying to hold onto hope from opposite sides of the same crime.

Heavy? A little. Worth it? Absolutely.

Join us Tuesday, September 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Bookshelf on Church for a discussion that's bound to get us all fired up. Coffee, snacks, and strong opinions welcome.

RSVP so we can save you a seat.
