Dean Leroy Huxman, 64, passed away on July 17 in Carbondale, Illinois. Dean was born in Topeka, Kansas on March 3, 1962 to Arlene and Alvin Huxman. He attended Highland Park High School and went on to study art at Kansas State University. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Metalsmithing. Dean processed a wide range of construction skills including electrical wiring, welding and HVAC and he pursued a wide range of artistic mediums, contributing to many exhibitions before concentrating on metal sculpture and blacksmithing. Dean spent the last 25 years as a construction worker in the Carbondale area. He lived an independent lifestyle and enjoyed gardening and canning his own food and raising poultry. Dean was a lifelong lover of dogs. Dean had an untamable spirit and was generous with his time and skills to help family and friends. His family will greatly miss him, his wry smile and sense of humor.

Dean is survived by his mother Arlene Huxman of Hutchinson, Kansas, His older sister Marilyn Regier (Leon) of Grant, Nebraska and his older brother Alan Huxman (Patty) of Olathe, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father Alvin Huxman and older brother Wayne Huxman.

A service will be held in the Chapel at Mennonite Friendship Community, 600 Blanchard Rd, South Hutchinson, Kansas on August 15, at 11:00. A service will be held in Carbondale for his friends in that area in September, time and date TBD.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Kansas City Young Audiences in honor of Dean’s passion for the arts. **ATTENTION **
Due to the recent lettuce and now jalapeno, guacamole notices. We are closing down our salad bar for the season. Nothing is selling and I totally understand. We did not have any issues with our stuff here at Cleo's but a lot of people are just being cautious. Soup season will start in September! I hope it cools down by then.

DOUG R. GRIFFIS
Doug R. Griffis, 74, died Aug. 5, 2026.
He was born May 30, 1952, at Washington, Kansas the son of Bill and Glenna Glahn Giffis. A longtime resident of the Cunningham and Lyons communities, he was a retired Sr. Operations Mgr. for Northern Natural Gas.
A happy go lucky guy, he was known to be helpful to all. Doug was a member of the Elks Lodge at Pratt; was the former Captain of the Lyons Fire Dept.; the former Fire Chief for Cunningham, Kansas; and was a 1970 graduate of Lyons High School.
On Feb. 27, 1988, he married Kathy Kampling at Hutchinson. Other survivors include a son Deric and his wife Dara; daughters Darci Meyers and husband Jason, and Debi Deal and husband Jim; sister Rhonda Newman and her husband Jim; grandchildren Cordell, Daria, Brayden, Jersey, Oliver, Maggie and Morgyn; and great-grandchildren Josie and Ruby. He was preceded in death by his sister JoLee Burge.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 10, 2026 at the Maud Cemetery, Cunningham. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 10, 2026 at the Maud Cemetery, Cunningham. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026 at the Livingston Funeral Home.
Memorials have been suggested to the Cunningham Fire Dept. and mailed to Livingston Funeral Home, 1830 N. Main, Kingman KS 67068.
