August is a fiery month as we move through the spiritual & astrological portal of Lion’s Gate and the total solar eclipse on August 12th. However this transformative energy shows up in your world, we’re here holding a spiral of care for whatever changes you’re experiencing.

This month opens with Dan Chung leading an inner child healing as part of our Torchbearers series, which is dedicated to awakening each of our internal flames so that we can lighten the way forward for ourselves and others. Come connect with a part of yourself that needs expression.

And the month closes with Jason Stern’s introduction to G.I. Gurdjieff’s path of inner work as an exploration of our essential nature. This tradition is designed for the conditions of modern life and it offers a direct, culturally accessible approach to becoming more fully oneself and opening to higher influences.

In between, we have Liri Duraku of ORA-CLE STUDIOS returning for Flower Alchemy: The Ritual of Crafting Essences, where we will connect with the language & spirit of plants and learn how essences serve as supportive allies in our lives. Everyone will craft their own individual flower essence to take home.

We’re honoring the midpoint of spring, the increasing sun, the incoming fertility of growth with a Beltane/May Day 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕 π‘Ίπ’Šπ’• β€” a practice in slowing down and listening, not just to the natural world, but to the subtle shifts within ourselves.

Khadija of will offer a mystery medicinal tea and lead us through a practice of learning to feel our unique interaction with the plant as we engage with it. Even in its dried form, the plant interacts with usβ€”through chemistry, sensation, and perception.

Through guided stillness and heart-centered awareness, we’ll explore what it means to be in relationship: noticing how our state shifts, how our body responds, and how attention deepens our sensitivity.

This is a practice of interspecies connectionβ€”not through words, but through presence, observation, and resonance. A remembering of something many of our ancestors knew well: that relationship with the living world begins with listening.

We’ll close by sharing reflections, revealing the plant, and exploring its medicinal qualities and traditional uses. Come to slow down, tune in, and expand your capacity to feel, notice, and relate. Fast times call for presence and intention.

Especially when dealing with used books (which includes all books that have ever existed), we come across all sorts. How we decide which we eventually select is an intuitive process. It's also how we encourage people to find something among our shelves.

Spiral Cinema is now a free monthly series of consciousness-expanding movies. April’s film is Waking Life, written & directed by Richard Linklater.

Waking Life is a movie that wanders through varying ideas and levels of consciousness, creating a kaleidoscopic portrait of life. Its distinctive visual style is called rotoscoping, which means it was shot with real cameras and then animated afterwards. Its surreal, dreamlike themes, tone, and aesthetic make it a one-of-a-kind movie experience.
