💚 THE NEST OF KINGWOOD JUST HIT FIVE YEARS, AND I THINK THEIR STORY IS BIGGER THAN “A CUTE LOCAL BOUTIQUE.”
Jamie Lucks and Melissa Miller opened The Nest of Kingwood in 2021 after becoming friends through a prayer group. What they built along Northpark Drive is part gift shop, part gathering place and part ministry space.
They sell Bibles, devotionals, jewelry, candles, clothing, baby gifts and locally made artisan goods, but they also offer complimentary coffee, fresh-baked cookies, Bible embossing, free gift wrapping and even a prayer wall where visitors can leave requests for the owners to pray over.
And now they’re expanding the community side of the business even more. A second building behind the original shop is being used for prayer groups and Bible studies, with a dedicated prayer room expected to debut this fall.
I also really like that they intentionally carry goods from local artisans, because that means one small business is helping create shelf space for other small businesses too.
But here’s the question I think is actually worth asking. How many businesses like this disappear during long road-construction projects, not because people stopped loving them, but because people simply stopped making the effort to get there? 👀
The Nest says the ongoing Northpark construction has been difficult, and that part matters. We talk a lot about infrastructure projects eventually making an area better, but there’s a period in the middle where the businesses sitting along that construction corridor still have rent, payroll and inventory to cover.
So when a local business says, “Don’t forget us,” that really does mean something.
And whether you’re religious or not, I thought something Melissa said was lovely: their common ground is kindness. They’ve had people come in and say they aren’t religious, and the response is basically, “That’s okay, come in anyway.” 💚
