Cormorant taking flight at Hendrick Island, approximately 7 miles downstream of the Shoal. While the maximum depth of the Delaware is 113 feet, cormorants can dive up to 145 feet, so there is no spot in the river too deep for them to reach.

We talk a lot about Treasure Island, our closest neighbor (300 feet from the Shoal). The BSA camp was abandoned in 2008 due to repeated floods but Scouts returned in 2018 and have been hard at work ever since refurbishing the site for future generations. Looking upriver at Stuhls Falls, a class 1 rapid approximately 4.5 miles upstream of the Shoal. Wrecked boats that did not pass through safely are scattered across the riverbed immediately downstream. When conditions are right, we raise and scrap them.
