Some of you may have wondered why I’ve been so quiet this past month. I took an unexpected and much needed break.
Our family experienced a tragic loss and it’s been a painful reminder of just how complicated grief can be.
You don’t just grieve the loss itself. You grieve the past, the present and a future that won’t include them. You grieve the people you lost before them. And you grieve for the people you love that are also grieving, carrying a weight you can’t take from them.
It’s so hard to lose someone who had so much love for you that they would light up the moment you walked into the room and made the world feel like it stopped just for you. To lose someone with so much light is so painful.
As I grieve, it also makes me think of my mom, who for years kept asking me to take her on a trip. I was always “too busy” or it was never the “right time.” I always had an excuse. Now, I’d give anything to go ANYWHERE with her. It’s one of my biggest regrets.
This loss has forced me to slow down and take a good look at what and who I’ve been prioritizing. It has forced me to face my own mortality, again.
It’s helped me recenter on my family in a way I didn’t realize I needed. We’re asking each other things like why we don’t make the drive to see each other more often and why it takes a funeral to bring us together.
We say we’re too busy, but the truth is, we make time for what matters to us. This has been my reminder to choose differently.
I share this in hopes that it might inspire you to take that trip or do the thing you’ve been putting off.
That being said, I will be taking a break from group this month to let my heart rest. Thank you for understanding and thank you to those who have reached out. It means so much. ❤️
