Crooked Cabin

Crooked Cabin Homemade items of all sorts. Rustic, cabin-style homegoods and wearables! Welcome to the Crooked Cabin!

I make a variety of terrific, homemade items from our log cabin in rural Alaska. We do things the old fashioned way here, with hard work and a smile. I started the business in 2016 from our 30 year old, 400sf, offgrid cabin on the Unalakleet River, 8 miles inland from the Bering Sea in Western Alaska! With only a small generator to turn on as needed (for internet and machine sewing!), we relied he

avily on tradition - handwashing dishes and clothes in river water warmed on the heat stove, growing and preserving our own vegetables from seed, fishing and hunting for all of our meat, showering under a bucket on the porch, and selling homemade goods at the local, village market and online. In late 2019, we moved to Sutton, Alaska (pop. 1,400), where we continue to live a simple life which includes plenty of time for hunting, fishing, and just exploring Alaska’s backcountry. Your support of our cabin-based business is much appreciated!

I've been kicking around a new idea for Crooked Cabin, and I'd love your feedback!

I love smoked foods, but not everyone has a smoker or the time to spend hours creating that rich, smoky flavor. That's why I've been thinking about making small-batch smoked salts that could instantly add a delicious smoky taste to meats, vegetables, potatoes, eggs, soups, popcorn, and more.

I'm considering offering them in:
🧂 Reusable canisters for local sales
🧂 Resealable stand-up pouches for online orders

I'm also thinking about experimenting with different wood-smoke flavors, such as alder, applewood, cherry, or hickory.

So tell me:
✨ Is smoked salt something you would buy?
✨ What foods would you use it on?
✨ Which smoky flavors sound most appealing?
✨ Would you prefer a canister or a refill pouch?

Your ideas help shape what comes out of the Crooked Cabin kitchen, and I'd love to hear what you think. Drop your thoughts in the comments! 👇🔥🧂
